My mod is not showing up in game.

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:46 pm

First off, I'm running Windows 7 and I am not using the Fallout 3 Mod Manager. I entered the G.E.C.K. as an admin and created a new save. I then created my mod and saved it. The mod shows up in my Data folder and I have checked the box for it in the Data Files section of the Launcher. Unfortunately, when I enter the game, the mod is not there. I haven't modded a Bethesda game in quite a long time, so I'm sure that I'm missing something. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

On a side note, would it be advisable for me to run the "My First Vault" tutorial to get me better acquainted with the G.E.C.K.?

1. What did you mod?

2. Yes.

1. What did you mod?

2. Yes.

I created a new sniper rifle with slightly better stats, a personal footlocker with the rifle in it, and I placed a shack near the entrance to Vault 101. When I enter the game, they're not there. I'm not getting an object error or anything.

Side note on the sniper rifle: I adjusted its Min. and Max. range, the Min. and Max. damage, the condition, the value, the clip size, as well as changing the ammo type to 10mm. Even if this was an issue, the other stuff should show up in the game right?

1. What worldspace did you place this stuff in?

2. Did you create a 'new' container and a 'new' rifle. Or adjust existing objects?

1. The Vault 101 worldspace... just a little ways outside the vault entrance.

2. Both the rifle and the footlocker are new. Meaning I gave them new names and IDs. The structure was just copied and pasted... I made no alterations to it.

There are several 'interior' vault 101 entrances. It depends on what part of the 'vault 101' quest you are on as to which one is 'active'.
You probably placed your stuff in one that is not active in your current game.

The objects are not in the vault, they are outside. Additionally, I also attempted to place the rifle and the chest in Megaton as well as Springvale and I couldn't find them there either.

Have you updated the geck and the game? this could be a huge role.

Thanks Persidon

Both are up to date. I've also tried starting a new game and nothing.

There aren't really a whole lot of explanations for something like this, you're over-looking something, make doubly sure you've checked the mod off to load and that you're actually saving the files and whatnot.

I think you would find it very helpful to go through the "My first vault" tutorial series. As well as any other tut's you can find

It looks that way. I might try to use the Fallout Mod Manager since it seems to have cleared up similar issues with other mods. However, I'm sure that I'm simply missing some step. So, until someone suggests the possible solution, I am going to start on the "My First Vault" tutorial sometime today. Hopefully I'll get this resolved soon. Thank you all for your assistance thus far.

Ok try these steps.
  • Open the geck, then immediatly save as say mytestmod
  • Load Fallout.exe and go to the data section and see if the mytestmod is there. if it is continue
  • go back to the geck, in the cell list goto vault 101 and find the entrance(cave to wastelands) make sure you see the door marker (m button i think), double click the door marker(yellow arrow), i think it pops up with a msg box, click yes and now you should be in the wastelands yes?
  • now put something there any static object
  • now travel to the wasteland entrance. and the item should be there

Thanks Persidon

Also, make sure you don't have the 'initially disabled' check box checked on the items you are placing.

Please report what version of the game you are patched up to, and what version of the GECK you are patched up to.

It might be better if you upload your ESP files somewhere for us to look at.

1. My current versions of both the game and the G.E.C.K. are fully patched and up to date. I've actually never seen an Initially Disabled check box, so I'm not sure if that is the problem. Where might I find that check box on a weapon for instance?

2. I am currently working on the My First Vault tutorial and my early testing with it shows up in the game. So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with my first mod considering that the mod does show up in my Data folder as well as the Data Files section of the Fallout 3 Launcher. Thank you for the help so far by the way. :)

You double-click on any object in the 'Object Window'. Those are the 'Reference settings'. Its also where you assign the Reference ID if you need it.

Until you upload your mod somewhere, at least I cannot help you any further. By what you have said, it should work. So, you are doing something wrong that you have not said your doing yet.

I have finally found the Initially Disabled check box... it's in the Render Window. I never get those specific options by double clicking in the Object Window.

The Initially Disabled check box is not checked so I still have no idea why my stuff isn't showing up in game. However, at least I ruled that out as a problem. I have uploaded the file to the F3Nexus mod site: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14542 I am at a loss, so hopefully one of you would be willing to take a look at. I greatly appreciate any assistance with my modding. Thank you.

works fine for me, so it must be something you are doing.

I finally figured out what the problem was. I placed a space between 'Wicked' and 'Weapons' and ,for what ever reason, my game just would not accept it. I created two identical mods with spaces and one without and the one without was accepted. My mod works fine for me now and it's pretty fun shooting stuff with a silent sniper rifle that takes a 12 round 10mm clip. Thank you all for your assistance.
