Mod Organizer - good to use?

Post » Thu Jan 23, 2014 5:56 pm

I currently do my modding the "old way" with Wrye Bash 304.3. Of course it works great and can do all that needs to be done. But especially the MO "Profiles" feature for different sets of mods has a lot of six appeal... So I'm just asking for some brief feedback whether users are happy with MO? Does it deliver? Does this directory virtualisation really work ?

Or maybe some people used it, but went back to WB? Because of issues? Performance loss?

Any particular pitfalls to look out for?

I've already started reading the MO Guide and forums on STEP, the Documentation is impressive. Plus MO seems to work together with other indespensable tools like BOSS and WB for the bashed patch... that all sounds great. I'm inclined to make the change. Just wanted to get a feel of how MO is accepted and appreciated, especially by the "old hands" around here.

I've been using MO for a month or 2 now and I'm happy with it. The profile thing is what sold me as I like to play around with mods and test them and with the Profile ability I can easily switch between mod setups. I run the CK, WB, BOSS, and several other utilities from it too. The only thing is, is when you put all your mods in it and you want to run a program like WB, BOSS, CK you HAVE to run it through MO or else they wont detect any of the mods installed. Also you can have your Skyrim ini's bound to profiles which means you have different ini configurations per profile. Same thing with saves.

Moving from WB to it was a bit strange but once you catch on to how it works it's pretty nifty. You just have to get used to how it installs (how it likes the file setups). Beyond that it has a bunch of nice features though I dont recommend using the NMM Converter as it's experimental for a reason and does not always work as intended.

Been using it for some time and it's great. The only performance hit is that it takes an additional couple of seconds to launch the game. Highly recommended.
