[WIP] MOD: Pip-Boy Notepad

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 8:11 am

Every OS needs a notepad function, RobCo's Pip-Boy should be no different. I will work on this to begin with in the Fallout 4 modding department (if anyone would like to join please feel free to contact me).

So please do your vote first, I have a feeling I know which way it will go but might as well do an acid test.

Pip-Boy Notepad Features:

2 New areas in the Pip-Boy:

Location Reminders

Pip-Notes

With Location you'll be able to note down revealing details about things you have left behind such as safes or un-hacked computers. You'll even be able to centre on the map to find these locations faster. Pip-Notes you'll be able to note your own short stories of things to do the next time you load up on Fallout 4.

In game. If I'm writing on my phone, I may as well use a pre-existing phone notepad or simply write it down on paper.

I could really try to stretch myself and make a voice activated in-game notepad function, so a key press would either create a holotape of your voice with a mic inserted or a speech-to-text makes a misc note which can be dumped after.

I applaud the notion. Being able to type up a note or something like reminders and where to find things would be really useful.

Well to be fair in doesn't need to be in-game only for you to be happy just NOT in-app only.

Well 100% on in-game. I will wait a little while until the modding tools mature a bit more as I don't want to start adding additional issues that already go along with the pip-boy that I've read on the forums.

Updated first 2 posts. I figured I may as well start to produce it in the hopes that the next patch release will see the fixing of most of the bugs so players will be able to use this mod without fear of game breaks.

what is really needed I think is a section that logs all the notifications that appear in game. Stuff like base under attack etc. Maybe the last 25 entries. Another thing is the lack of info on how many rads we currently have like it used to be in the stats screen.

Your first idea had occurred to me too, it seems a little bit minimal to have a 10 second message about saving a colony. A log would be quite nice but I think unless you check it often then you're probably still going to miss the notifications.

I would personally like to see a mod that made those notifications flash and be more attention grabbing... at least then it saves a lot of loading times for everyone.

I think your second suggestion is really great too, and again, probably a separate mod. It seems odd that, for example, the power armour gives a % reading of HP and AP, yet has nothing in the way of showing Rad %. Perhaps another mod idea. I believe there is a thread for mod ideas and you should definitely promote these in there, I for one +1 support them.
