Mod Recommendations for New Players

Post » Wed Sep 08, 2010 8:29 pm

While you list a couple of "warranted" warnings about the otherwise useful Testool, you make no mention of the various issues with the 2.0 version of FPS Optimizer. 1.96 is the preferred version, but anyone unfamiliar with it would naturally assume that they should get the "latest and greatest".

The link goes to v1.96
but I'll make a note on v2. Thanks.

If a new player really want to know what is going on about the 'GMST' ? I would say Yacoby's http://code.google.com/p/escog/. I've already try it and I was suprised how easy that was to know which 'GMST' was evil or safe.

I agree with this. Even a MW modding noob like me could navigate around it very easily.

What's your opinion of the 'Morrowind Enchanted Editor', when you must edit the saved gamefiles or cleaning a mod ?

Wow. Well done, Pluto.

I returned to Morrowind recently (6 months ago is recent? :P) and I beat the MQ of vanilla and expansions and a few guild questlines. I was about to make a thread asking for mod recommendations but you saved me the trouble :) .

Thanks.

Bump, and an update.
Included the link to the Mash document, since some people can't find it easily.

I miss one thing in the first post: http://www.etherealsoftware.com.au/patch/
While the MPP is a continueing of the UMP it differs greatly from it. The MPP comes with several changes and not only fixes.
So let the players choose which version they want to get. I use myself the UMP instead of MPP, because i'm not happy with some changes which the MPP adds.

Long time no see Pluto.

Here is something you can add to that mod list (must be damm long now). :read: All I can say is; Thank you Pluto !!! :tops:

I've played Kateri's http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Kateri.htm mod for a while now, I agree with you when mentioned the 'Read the readme' section about any mod you have installed. So I will share what I know about mods, don't use mod you don't understand (what it's does or how it's work - etc). Since none one mention this before, I can't find a link to the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=536 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=535. May I suggest that put http://lovkullen.net/Emma/index.htm to the download link section, because there is Emma's & Grumpy's mods together with the lastest version of these mods.

I assume that you will continue to improve that mod list of yours. Great work Pluto. :goodjob:

I agree with you Jac, but that decision is Pluto's don't you think. :)

Actually, it's the moderators', but they don't pin many threads.

Excellent idea Pluto. I'll try too remember this thread if I get an addition idea or find a good link. Many of those links have been very useful for my mod selection all the way back when I was a mod noob until now. BTB's Must-Have Mods is a very serious and interesting site which I always read regularly either out of pure curiosity or when I need mod inspiration for a new character setup.
This is one the best basic mod FAQ I have seen in very long time. Written in a clean language, very basic and easy too understand. Great job :goodjob:

Is there a reason that this thread hasn't yet displaced the current (extremely outdated) sticky?

...you know, aside from the fact that nobody ever reads sticky threads?

Nice post, I am reinstalling for the first time in 6 years and I am rather sure 99% of these (besides fishysticks) were not around at that point B)

Bumpity-bump. Extremely helpful guide. If it won't become a sticky then I would kindly ask for mods' addresses, come to them and ask (not so kindly this time) for a sticky this thread deserves.

Is it still necessary to clean mods? And is Testool the best way to clean them? I just cant seem to find anything of late on the subject.

Absolutely.

I think Testool is very good for cleaning.
