Mod request. Norse Mead drinking horns.

Post » Mon Feb 15, 2010 7:35 pm

I noticed that there are some incredibly talented creators here, that have retextured or outright replaced some of the common items.
Some, have even made common items such as tankards, equipable.

Now hear me out, just a little. Wouldn't a nice, shiny (like a Markynaz's horns) Mead horm with some gold or silver Norse scrollwork on the top look dash cunning in the hands of your character as well as your companions? Imagine some craftsperson in the corner of Thirsk or the Skyrim mission, selling a selection of equipable drinking horns. Not a lot, just perhaps some with gold, silver, or copper tops.

Just wondered if any thought it would be good too. I've seen and experienced in-game, steaming mugs of cider and even steaming bowls of soup. Seen exemplary scrollwork on the Leaves of Lorien armor. Surely one of you very talented folks could put the two together and give us a drinking horn?

Pleaase? ; )

Dongle's http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3338 has a carved horn in it.
That can at least get you started, until you find a proper texture for it to suit your needs.

Hey, thank you Pluto. That is a step in the right direction for sure! But I lack the requisite skills to put the whole thing together, hence, my meager request. With that mesh, say Westly's horn texture he used on Gatanas and the Markynaz, a little gilding from anywhere placed along the edge, and a nice Nord seller in Thirsk, I think those of us with Nordic hearts would love it. Especially if it could be equipped like the tankards in the Liffey Tavern mod.

Wait, you're the same Pluto of the Sable Dragon Inn? WOW. My whole Morrowinding family have been burning your ears over the mod and telling others about it. Again, thank you for the heads up.

It's a nice horn, but could a kind modeler make one that could take a full, non-tiling texture that repeats on both sides?

The possibilities would be endless on what could be textured on it. :)

I have a few textures tucked away that might be real pretty on a horn model that could take a texture like this. :)

And if that kind modeler got real inspired, a wall version would also be really nice.

What about http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/6247/drinkinghorn.jpg I used all vanilla textures and the model from that ranger mod. From what little research I've done online, I feel like the gold wouldn't be completely out of place

I have visions of intricately patterned carved horns. First modder pack inspiration for several years. :D

Alternately, here's http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/619/drinkinghorn2.jpg, which just has a bone look to it.

What you guys have done with that is fantastic. Dare I hope that this simple mod might be an actual reality someday? I have no idea how complex a seller of equipable drinking horns would be, in the grand scale of modding.

Again, those skins(tex) look great.

I need a horn model that takes a single, non-tiling texture on each side first. :)
