[WIP] MOD: SPECIAL Heroes

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 12:25 pm

Firstly, please note that this is a design documentation to begin an initial plan for a mod on fallout 4. This original design may not be fully implementable, and may not be at all depending on how much help I get, which brings me to the next point.
If anyone wants to volunteer help to this mod I will happily accept, I am, by trade, a designer. Scripting, Graphical etc. work will be done, just very slowly by myself as I will have to teach myself the whole Fallout engine. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1542718-wip-mod-superhero-fallout-4/?p=24445224 to view the team.

Disclaimer: I am in no way trying to steal ideas and property from any franchise in order to make money, this will be a free mod with the exception to have accepting donations. Besides if you have any problems I will just claim parody law, thanks.

I will try to update every Friday, even if there is nothing to update.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So,

Synopsis

After reaching level X your perk choices will begin to unlock super hero abilities, due to the fact of being so long in nuclear radiation. And so have others for that matter. Augment your game experience of the standard Fallout game as well as have super villains trying to destroy you. Take yourself down a new quest line of parody and decision making. Just watch out for Dr. Boom.

Premise

After years in the wasteland; mutations began to occur. Those who particularly excelled in certain aspects of human skill began to become even more powerful to a point where the resurrection of the term “Super-Hero” become necessary. Suddenly what was just comic boy fantasy not 200 years before, is now a reality and an already harsh world becomes more extreme.

Even certain factions have begun to form, due to discrimination from “ordinary people” against these bizarre cases. Some Good. Some Evil. Some pray that, someday, they can have an ability given to them. Others, pray they will have it taken away and a normal life can be given back.

What about you? Will you even get the choice?

Proposed Features

  • Custom SPECIAL Hero Powers
  • A New Quest Line Unique To Each Hero
  • More Old, And New Enemies
  • New Customisable City with SPECIAL Hero NPC's
  • SPECIAL Power Battles In Wastelands And New City
  • New Instances To Explore Including Dungeons And Vaults
  • Fast Travel Removed From The Game. Maybe There Is A Hero Who Can Teleport?

Currently, the effects are just theorized, due to balancing requirements and effects it may change although the underlying theory will not.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Heroes

Spoiler

The Incredible Sulk

First discovered when a barrage of Deathclaws attacked an unsuspecting man one night. Torn, bleeding, calling to whoever will hear for help; something broke inside a desperate man. To his surprise he awoke with the morning light hitting his face. The only clue to him as to what happened were large dents in the road and torn corpses of deathclaws laid across half a kilometer. He would also need new clothes.

Requirements:

  • Nerd Rage [Max]
  • Cannibal [Max]
  • Iron Fist [Max]

Effects:

  • Grow to 3x the size
  • Damage with Unarmed increases by 10x
  • Unable to conduct speech
  • Cannot stop until a certain amount of corpses are eaten
  • A red hue layers the player's vision
  • All armour worn, except metal armour, is broken after.

5 points remaining

Hilo Nakamula

Master Of-a Space and Time. When in VATS, all time stops. Beyond that this hero can even move around freely inside VATS as if unaffected by it, at the cost of action points. On top of this there are no travel restrictions for such a hero.

Requirements:

  • Awareness [Max]
  • Action Boy [Max]
  • Grim Reaper's Sprint [Max]

Effects:

  • VATS no longer slows down time but stops it completely
  • VATS does not make the player unable to move and can attack freely.
  • There are no travel restrictions for fast travel
  • Slower regeneration of action points
  • Can cause head crippling if used too often and not medicated

8 points remaining

VAulTeye

Too much time looking through a scope and using VATS caused this poor hero to mutate in a strange way.

Requirements:

  • Sniper [Max]
  • Lone Wanderer [Max]
  • Better Criticals [Max]

Effects:

  • Deadeye will always see hit percentages, in VATS or not.
  • When using a sniper rifle, all chances to hit and crit are increased, AP cost is lower.
  • Sneak is max when a certain distance from any enemy
  • Chems are doubly addictive
  • Sneak is 0 when within a certain distance of any enemy

7 points remaining

Slash

Running back and forth between towns, this poor courier tripped and fell into a pool of RAD water. Now, travel is almost nothing to him and guns... well they are just too damn slow now. Shame about the speedy metabolism.

Requirements:

  • Escape [Max]
  • Big Leagues [Max]
  • Inspirational [Max]

Effects:

  • Sprint is now 25x faster than before
  • Stores produce twice as much caps.

  • Wasteland Whisper [Max]

Effects:

  • Gravity is reduced by a factor of 2x, 4x or 10x, depending which mode.

  • You become a mean bass player

8 points remaining.

The Gunisher

When punishment just isn't enough, the world needs gunishment. Born with a pistol in one hand, ammo clip in the other. This mutation was foreseeable.

Requirements:

  • GunFu [Max]

  • Accuracy reduced by 20% for all weapons
  • Accuracy in VATS reduced by 40% for all weapons

5 points remaining

Keratin Man

Beards were fashionable back in the pre-apocolyptic days. One such stubborn man refused to shave and ended up mutating a layer of impenetrable hair around his body. Ew.

Effects:

  • Torso and all limbs cannot become crippled.
  • Unarmed attacks can cause disgust (paralyzing palm but with different animation) without any perks

  • Head is twice as easy to cripple
  • Wasteland creatures detect you 25% further away
  • You can never own a razor

8 points remaining

Yaoverine

Vault 146-R47 was a secret government testing facility. In the early days when mutations were occurring scientists tried to combine human and creatures to create unstoppable soldiers against warring countries. Little did they expect that the scientists were conspiring to destroy America from the inside. After a non-registered vault transfer one such beast was able to be released into the populace... I think it was Vault 111 if memory serves.

6 points remaining

The One Two Three Four... Five?

This hero mutation is quite bizarre in that it changed the semantics of a sentence and caused a universal anomaly. "Jack of all trades, master of none" then became "Jack of all trades, master of all".

In his retreat he was severely bitten and left for dead. Some time later, when all was quiet, he regained consciousness and with his last ounces of strength pulled himself to the last remaining working cryochamber in the vault. Discarding the man who was in there the overseer incubated, healing. Waiting on his release. After he got out, there were many side effects of the events.

S.P.E.C.I.A.L Story

Every super hero will have their own story line to follow at first with some that converge at different points and diverge again when particular choice making is required. There will be between 5-7 main quests that are individual to each special hero and a last 3 or 4 quests to round off the story for all of them. There will be side quests that are for experimenting with the new powers and even guiding in some strategy development with the harder to use heroes to prepare for saving the world.

Spoiler

The Incredible Sulk Story

Issue #1: Minor Annoyance
After fulfilling the requirements for the incredible sulk, the next time the player is out at night in the wastelands he will be attacked by a very large group of nightstalkers. Truce Tanner, a scientist who was seen earlier may have some insight into this strange occurrence.

Quests Objective: Trigger another black out.
After playing through the game and coming to a point of <20% health, the occurrence will happen again. He begins to pelt you with rocks telling you to leave and never return to this area, but that just makes you annoyed. Another transformation is triggered only this time the player will be in control. The transformation will continue to be in effect until the player has eaten sufficient corpses to raise their health back to >80% at which point the red hue will be gone, they will be back to normal size, able to conduct speech and have broken armor. Time to return to Truce.
Reward: Unlock "The Incredible Sulk" Hero
Quests Objective: Seek Out Truce Tanner Once More
Truce Tanner is aware of SPECIALs and explains the full extent of your condition. Not trying to be a buzzkill here. Just letting you know that if your trying to avoid cease and desist situations by not using actual names then your going to want to find another term for "superhero" because Marvel has it trademarked. The hit TV show Heroes was originally called Superheroes and Marvel, well you can imagine. That was before Disney. Now that Disney owns Marvel any and all trademark infringement will be snuffed with renewed vigor.

Thank you for the information Worm, I have taken another read up on legality of the word Superhero and you're quite right, if you intend on making a product to sell then it becomes illegal to use this term. I don't quite intend on selling but I will be safe and go with S.P.E.C.I.A.L Heroes, it was starting to take that shape in the design documentation anyway.

Thanks again.

That sounds as stupid as a casual game company trying to trademark saga. I'd they created a new word like cybersteampunk, then it would make sense, but words that have existed long before the trademark should always be in the public domain.

Hehe, I'm sure other people will join as time goes on. If not I always have my "Sun Tzu Philosophy" and "Previous Experience" perks to fall back on.

I pretty much like the supers idea. As a comic fan, ex-city of heroes long time player and such it's always a nice setting.

But it's not an easy task as I can see it:

Take a look at FO3/NV -> Iron Man Suit

The idea behind it is pretty damn cool. But having a working armor, custom animations and such is a tendious amount of work.

F3SE/NVSE required.

And you would like to hook to perks, wich I guess will mean a semi-overhaul of the system.

Unlikely this can be done without the GECK.

But I like the more Prototype'ish approach. inherent powers, not just a tool wich will give you powers.

I agree with your concerns Rotinom, I'm trying my best to keep it to some basic file changes that will give maximum feeling of a new experience in the game. Luckily for me Bethesda have pretty much done a working iron man suit that I just need to tweak a bit. I've also tried to anolyse the most common "builds" people will be working on as I design the heroes, that way, once they've completed vanilla and look at this mod they wont have to start a game from scratch; they can go "Oh cool, yeah, I will be the incredible sulk" and it already fits their playing style.

I think the hardest part will be introducing the story as I will need some times where other heroes the player _could_ have been, will be NPC's as WaterBoy and Human Flea work together to take on Dr. Boom and his sentinals. Not only that but each hero will have their own special introduction into the MOD lore as will become apparent in the SPECIAL Story section.

All in all I'm not too worried about the mod, it will be completed in x amount of time, I'm not going to rush it especially as I will be playing FO4 just as much as anyone else, there is also the day job to take into consideration. There is another thread mentioning about mod and, although I dont remember the poster's name, he makes an excellent point that people will be ringing up 100+ hours long before mods become a priority.

Friday Update:

Played a lot of Fallout 4. This was mainly to begin to familiarise myself what would be (and not) possible to do from a cosmetic and functional perspective in-game. Also fun.

Reserved a slot on GitHub for uploading files.

Played with the idea of removing fast travel from the game unless you are a type of hero.

Wtf? Superhero is a [censored] normal word. You cannot trademark normal words.

Or otherwise i am going to trademark the word "I".

I thought this was about adding other Wasteland heroes that was competing for the same loot, kinda like Legendary enemies =)

Would be cool to run into some other dude you had heard about on the radio.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by this. If I understand correctly you will run into other heroes during a questline (and villains too) and there will even be Hero/Villain battles at settlements (i'm going to try and work in having special heroes go to standard settlements for big defence bonuses but big population capacity i.e. Incredible Sulk = 40 defence but takes up 5 population.

After quests, provided you aren't in another quest line for the MOD you may see the Neo parody flying above your head and zooming down into a city as he spots a group of synths (his worst enemies).

Friday update:

More Fallout 4.

Adjust some of the already proposed heroes so they reflect in-game functions such as Slash would have trades twice as often, but this is actually useless. Now his stores make double caps.
