Mod to stop laser rifle from slowing you down?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:24 am

Is there a mod that fixes the laser rifle from slowing you down? It should slow you down about the same as an assault rifle, but it slows you down a lot even if you have it holstered, which doesnt make much sense....tried searching nexus to no avail.

I've never noticed the effect and it seems like it shouldn't happen.

There's actually a speed bonus for not having a weapon out, and it is generic to all weapons in FO3, not specific to particular weapons.

But some weapons like the missle launcher still slow you down even when holstered right?

If i switch from a holstered assault rifle to a holstered missle launcher or laser rifle, my character immediately starts running slower...(i can see the animation go slower in 3rd person view).

I wasn't aware that this happened, but in the meantime you can always hotkey the rifle and press the key twice to walk around unarmed.

Well yes i could but its annoying...would like to mod this out if possible. But i dont see anything about the laser rifle in the GECK that would do this....even if the effects are very visible ingame(holstered minigun is slower than holstered assault rifle).

Just did a test swapping between the 10mm pistol and the fat man and I couldn't notice any difference.

It helps if you are running in 3rd person view while you switch weapons.

Anyway i found the value that, kind of, affects it.

Geck->Settings->fMoveEncumEffectNoWea

This affects movement speed while weapons are holstered. Higher values = slower movement speed. The problem is i dont know why laser rifles are being affected by this, while assault rifles are not. I set it to 0 and running with a holstered pistol is the same as a holstered missle launcher now.

Well I don't know what's going on, I was in 3rd person and couldn't tell. Tried swapping the laser rifle and assault rifle back and forth too.

Still no difference. The wiki for Fallout 3 doesn't mention anything about it, so I doubt it makes a difference. If you have any mods installed it might be affecting it, otherwise weapons shouldn't affect running speed unless they're out.

I turned off all mods except for the official DLCs and checked it ingame again. Holstered pistol is faster than holstered minigun. And since the wiki says the default value for fMoveEncumEffectNoWea is 0.3, it means that you do get slowed if you have some weapons equipped. You probably have a mod that sets it to 0 or something...

The problem is finding out which weapons are triggering it and why.

I can see the difference there. From the looks of your HUD you have a mod installed, which is probably causing it for some reason. With no mods/dlc : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4O8rEv6OzLk. I don't know how to find the value of fMoveEncumEffectNoWea, do you know a way to print variables in the console?

edit: I also tried it wearing power armor but I still don't see any difference.

The HUD is from darn's UI mod and i turned it off. However since it replaces a .xml file the HUD still looks different with it turned off.

You can find the value of fMoveEncumEffectNoWea by looking in the GECK -> settings menue.

Alright well fMoveEncumEffectNoWea is showing up as 0.3 in the geck for me. I don't know what's going on but it shouldn't be slowing you down. The wiki for Fallout 3 is refined by now and the only thing that should slow down movement speed is armor weight and the weight of unholstered weapons.

edit:

Also, you can get the value of any of these ingame by using the console command "getgs fMoveEncumEffectNoWea", no quotes.

Any idea what fmoveweightmax does? I changed it from 150 to 300 and i noticed my move speed is a LOT faster now.

The animation isn't different for a rocket launcher vs. a laser rifle, is it?

If you have different animations installed then disabling the mod wouldn't change that.

fmoveweightmax, I believe, sets the maximum amount of weight that can be considered "worn" by the player and receives less of a movement penalty. Add up the weight of all your equipped weapons and armor and see if it is exceeding 150 with the missile launcher. Maybe that number is making the difference?

BTW, did you see my comment about renaming the normal movement animations to replace the sneak animations?

I didnt change any animations though.

On second thought i dont think its fmoveweightmax...unless its some weird value(e.g. 150 actually means 15.0). I tested it again and for some reason, with my pistol(blackhawk) unholstered, i run faster in T-51B armor(both winterized and non winterized) than with the tesla armor on. Very strange...and the actual weight is nowhere close to 150 or 300 for that matter, since full power armor doesnt even bring you anywhere close to 100 weight.

What comment are you referring to?
