Are there any mods out there that stop the official DLCs from automatically starting when you load up your game?

Exactly what I was looking for! :celebration: Thank you my good people! :celebrate:

One last question though, is a merged patch necessary for Oblivion?

If you mean a bashed patch, you definitely need one if you are running fcom etc. if the mod readme requires it, you need it.

As you add more and more mods, having a bashed patch will keep things stable, so i definitely recommend adding it - it is one of the simplest functions of wrye bash and takes 5-10 minutes (or less if you have a small load order). one of the threads here has alternity's pictorial guide for creating a bashed patch!

EDIT: If you meant the merged plugin file in SM's plugin refurbish, then that is to be used instead of the individual patches only when you have all dlcs.
