Modded Deadliest Warrior Tournament

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 1:43 pm

Welcome to my Modded Deadliest Warrior Tourney! In this tournament 16 combatants will enter and fight to the death. One will leave and be crowned champion! This will use modded Oblivion so you will get to use a very unique character for this. Please read the rules to find out more.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE MODS!! IT IS ONLY AN OPTION FOR THOSE THAT WISH IT!!!!

Some of you may be wondering what a Deadliest Warrior Tournament is all about. Basically the contestants tell me what their characters are like, I recreate the characters as NPCs, they fight it out in the arena, and I record the fights and upload them to Youtube. Here are links to the previous torunaments:

2.

Name, Race and Birthsign.
We will not be using modded birth signs. Your race however may be a modded one. When choosing this please provide a download link to your race so I can use it in my plugin. No advlt categorized races are permitted. Note, birth signs with fortify endurance have no effect on NPC’s. The effect will be changed to fortify health 50 points on self.

Appearance.

Please specify your appearance here. If you are using modded hair, eyes, etc please provide download links here.

Class.

State a name for your class and give your seven major skills here.

Magic Item Budget.

You will be given 6000 drakes for magic supplies. Your modded items will be priced by me according to their effects. Again send me links so I can check them out. You will be able to increase your budget based on skills and certain character choices.

Weapons.

Specify your arms here! This includes staves. If it is modded send me a link to it so I can include it in the battle. If you don’t you will be given and ebony longsword instead. All weapons will have ebony stats.
If you have armorer you get 1000 extra drakes.
If you have hand-to-hand as a major, you can choose to have either +5 fortification to it or 1000 extra drakes to spend.
If you have marksman as a major, you can have 200 free ebony arrows or have 500 extra drakes to spend. Note to players, Duke Patrick’s NPC archers can now miss will be activated while playing for a better experience.
There are limitations to weapons!!! Your weapons effects may not include: Calm, Command Creature or Command Humanoid.

Armor.

If you have heavy armor as a major skill you can have a free suit of heavy armor, or have 1000 extra drakes for magic apparel. All heavy armors have ebony stats, unless otherwise stated.
If you have light armor as a major skills, you can have a free suit of light armor, or have 1000 extra drakes to spend on magic apparel. All light armors have glass stats.

Magic Apparel.
If your armor is enchanted, I will price according to its enchantment. If you are using a modded armor set, you may trade its enchantments for a vanilla items enchantments, using the cost of the item your basing off of. Enchantments that are restricted are: Invisibility, Chameleon, Shield 100%(99 is appropriate if you can achive this within your budget), Resist normal weapons 100%(see shield description).

Alchemical Items.
You may buy 100 drakes worth of potions for your character if you have Alchemy as a major skill. If you are an apprentice, you will be given exactly what you picked. If you are a journeyman you will be given 2x as many. Expert and master result in 3x as many as you picked.

Spells.

You can select one magic effect from each magic skill that is a major skill for your character. You must also specify whether the spell effect is on target, on target area, on touch, or on self. You will then be given the best possible standard spell that you can cast.
You will be given the best summon spell according to your current rank. As the tournament progresses and your characters level and skills increase weaker spells will get replaced by stronger ones.

Conjuration is a special case because the various summonig spells aren't quite as cearly cut stronger versions of the same thing. So instead of selecting a single magic effect you get to select two specific summoning spells from the UESP list of standard spells (the link above). You select 1 Apprentice spell and 1Expert spell and your character gets the best of these spells that he or she can cast.

If you have Mysticism as a major skill you can select "extra spell" as your magic effect for Mysticism. This allows you to select one additional spell effect for another magic skill. For example a mage can normally only select one of Fire Damage (on target) and Shock Damage (on target), but if he picks "extra spell" as his Mysticism spell effect he can select both types of damage. This rule allows you to swap your Mysticism spell for a spell from another school of magic. You may not pick another conjuration spell.

If you have Alteration as a major skill you can increase your magic item budget by 1000 gold instead of selecting one Alteration spell. This simulates picking Open as your magic effect and using Alteration as an alternative to Security. As with mysticism, be sure LAME doesn’t have a spell you want before cashing in.

If you have Illusion as a major skill you can increase your magic item budget by 1000 gold instead of selecting one Illusion spell. This simulates picking Invisibility/Chameleon as your magic effect and using Illusion as an alternative to Sneak. You can still select Invisibility to use it in combat, but then you don't get 1000 gold for it (personally I think the gold would do you more good because the AI svcks at stealth, but it's your choice). Be sure to check LAME before cashing in.

Chameleon spells are not allowed. Your skill is too low to cast anything that will protect you from the AI so they would only make it harder to follow the fight when I record it.

Benefits of Other Skills.

This section specifies the benefits of all the other non-combat skills.

If you have Acrobatics as a major skill you get a 10% shield enchantment.

If you have Mercantile as a major skill you get a 1000 drakes bonus to your magic item budget.

If you have Security as a major skill you get a 1000 drakes bonus to your magic item budget.

If you have Sneak as a major skill you get a 1000 drakes bonus to your magic item budget.

If you have Speechcraft as a major skill you get a 1000 drakes bonus to your magic item budget.

AI Combat Style.

The available combat styles are Default, DefaultArcher, NPCConjurer, and NPCNecromancer.

Default is the combat style of most NPCs in the game. This combat style seems to involve engaging the enemy in melee and casting spells from time to time.

DefaultArcher is the combat style used by NPC archers. It involves trying to keep a distance from your enemy and shooting him with a bow. However, if the enemy comes too close this style will pull out a melee weapon and engage in close combat.

I'm not sure if there is any difference between NPCConjurer and NPCNecromancer combat styles, but just to be on the save side pick NPCConjurer if you'll be summoning daedra and NPCNecromancer if you'll be summoning undead. This is the style used by Conjurers and Necromancers. It will start combat by summoning a creature and then try to keep a bit of a distance and use ranged spells or a staff. However, once it runs low on Magicka or the staff runs out of charges this style is likely to engage the enemy in melee.

According to Hairdo Galosh Jam the difference between NPCConjurer and NPCNecromancer is that necromancers are more likely to engage in melee.

Artifacts.

Artifacts will come into play in round 3 and there can only be one of each artifact in the game. An Artifact is any item with a unique appearance. You can find most artifacts here, but unique looking items from SI (like Nerveshatter and the Diadem of Euphoria) are also valid choices. You choose two potential artifacts, but you will only get one. List the artifacts in the order of how much you want to get them. Modded artifacts will be considered equally as well so say someone chooses nicos gift as their first artifact and some one else chooses nicos gift , the person who chose first would be given the artifact.
If there are more than one version of an artifact, like nicos gift in short sword, dagger, longsword and claymore, whoever chooses it first would receive the version they chose and the second player would receive their second artifact chosen, if not already taken.
the only artifacts which are out of play are ones with enchants simalar to the staff of corruption which will just make the match unfair if the npc has has to fight its opponent plus itself. the skull of corruption is also out of play. if your artifact does not have an enchantment you may pick a default artifacts enchantment other than the skull of corruption.

Rules.
Spoiler
Participation.

16 people will be able to enter a character.

Time of Submission.

You may edit your character freely until the tournament starts. Your latest edit will be counted however as your official submission time, so be careful you don’t end up as person 17 do to your editing.

Multiple Characters.

There will be no multiple characters in this tournament, one character per person.

The Tournament.

The tournament will be composed of 4 rounds. In each round your character will fight another based on your position. To win you must defeat your opponent in a best of 3 series. First to 2 wins takes the series. There will be no re-fights with speech craft major skill, it will be used differently. Characters will take the place of auto calculated NPC’s under AI control. There levels will increase with each round. Round one will be fought at level 16. Round 2 will be fought at level 21. Round 3 will be fought at level 26 and Round 4 will be fought at level 41(big jump yes, but it will make this fight amazing!). Prepare accordingly to this. Note that autocalulated NPCs spread their skill incrases about equally among all skills. Major skills that match specialization are increased by 1,5 per level and major skills that don't match specialization are increased by 1 point per level. Not counting racial boni (boni is the proper Latin plural of bonus) this means that your major skills will be Journeyman level (if they match class specialization) or even only Apprentice level (if they don't match class specialization) throughout much of the tournament. This is especially important for spellcasters.

I considered entering a Wood Elf archer equiped with one of those instant kill arrows from OOO. I think they cost 5000 gold each so having 1 of them should be withing budget. :P But that would be beyond cheesy and not much fun for the rest of you, so I'm going to be a good buy and submit a more fair character. You may want to ban any instant kill scripted enchantments or spells anyway.

Some comments:
1. You should probably mention if you'll be using my balance changes or not.
2. I suggest you make Armorer into a simple +1000 gold skill and allow people to pick whatever gear they can afford. It's simpler and you'll have less work correcting people's entries.
3. In regard to Acrobatics, I know the 3%-9% was originally my idea, but examining the prices of Shield items in generic apparel it seems that 1% Shield is valued at 100 gold. So 1000 gold = 10% Shield. With other words, the 6% Shield is underpowered and people would be better off going with Mercantile and buying an item with a Shield enchantment.

I'll wait a bit before submitting a character.

If you look at the prices for magic items that have the Shield Enchantment you see that for example a robe with an 18% Shield costs 1802 gold. 2 gold is for the robe, the other 1800 is for the enchantment. So that is 100 gold for each 1% of the Shield enchantment.

Skills like Mercantile and Sneak give 1000 gold, right? But the special effect of Acrobatics is only worth 300 or 600 or at best 900 gold. So it is generally more useful to take Mercantile instead of Acrobatics and use the extra gold to buy a better Shield enchantment.

What I was trying to suggest is to make Acrobatics into a flat 10% shield enchantment to reflect this.

Desired Artifacts:
1. Amulet of Axes
2. Bladeturn Hood

Technically those are not artifacts because they don't have a unique look.

*I think I will start out with journeyman conjuration. If this is the case then my journeymen summon would be a headless zombie

Yes, you will start out as a journeyman in conjuration. The rules do only say that you have to choose an Apprentice and an Expert summong, but I think it was sooner meant to be Journeyman and Expert. The balance plugin I made has the summoning spells in potion form (with 60% of the standard duration to compensate for no casting cost) for all Journeyman and Expert spells except zombies. I didn't add zombie potions because I find them to be clearly supperior to skeletons. Which means they are overpowered.

**Do you think with this combat style he will summon his mace before engaging in combat instead of using his fists

It's chancy. In the Ten Trials of Crazy Jim we had a guy with a Bound Mace but when I tried recording he just used his fists. I ended up just giving the character a Daedric Mace.

Anyway, here's my character:

Name: Morvalien
Gender: female
Race: Breton
Birthsign: Ritual
Appearance: blue eyes, long black hair (loose or natural hairstyle), young age, and make the cheeks more guant
Class: Sorceress
Specialization: Magic
Favored attributes: Intelligence, Endurance
Major skils:
1. Hand-to-hand
2. Heavy Armor
3. Alteration
4. Conjuration
5. Destruction
6. Mysticism
7. Restoration
Magic Apparel Budget: 8000 (6000 base +2000 from Alteration and Hand-to-hand)
Total Magic item value: 7645
Weapons: Apotheosis (staff, 3500 gold)
Armor/clothes: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22794
Magic apparel: Ring of Nihilism (2430), Helmet of Magicka Resistance (1715) (please put the EnAppResistMagickaCommon enchantment from the helm on the hood from Tyrael Armor)
Alchemy items: none
Spells: Summon Undead (Skeleton Guardian, Skeleton Champion, Gloom Wraith), Hail Storm, Extra Spell: Shield (self), Restore Health (self)
AI Combat Style: default
Desired Artifacts:
1. Mundane Ring / Spellbreaker
2. Spellbreaker / Spelldrinker Amulet

I put in Mundane Ring just in case, even though it's technically not an artifact. But TheNord picked Amulet of Axes and if you're allowing powerful items in general, I'd rather have the Mundane ring than Spellbreaker. But I'd advise you to stick with the rules you posted, under which an artifact is an item with a unique look. My champion is already cheesy enough without 116% Resist Magic which would make Crazy Jim look like a sissy in comparison. ;)

Hail Storm is the standard journeyman area Frost Damage spell. When I come to the grand finale I'd qualify for the expert version, but I'd rather keep the journeyman version because it's more cost effective.

Going through the rules again I noticed that it still says that Armorer improves the quality of your armor. It also doesn't say that Armor gives +1000 gold.

Edit: I reread the rules, noticed that I can't get a free Ebony sword and had to fix my character.

BTW, I just noticed Gurkog's magic item budget is over 9000. :D

Edit2: Major character redesign.

I like how there are magic using characters.... a good mix would be great and would make the ladder climb more unpredictable. It is hard to balance against heavy melee and magic with the new system :P

@dragatus I am trying something new.... so watch me fail.

I don't believe it's possible for NPC's to wear two rings, so you might want to switch to some kind of amulet.

Little monster, you might want to edit the old post you made instead of posting your character a second time. It's a bit more clear that way.

John, you might want to add the list of balance changes to the original post. Otherwise I expect several people will just read the OP and post their character without knowing what the balance changes are. And letting people know things like how Redguards now get 25% shield as a racial ability and how Imperials now have 60% Resist Shock is kind of important.

I like how there are magic using characters.... a good mix would be great and would make the ladder climb more unpredictable. It is hard to balance against heavy melee and magic with the new system :P

That's the idea. :D

Although my Morvalien still starts with 55 AR and 66% Resist Magic in round 1 which is a pretty good overall defence. And in the final round she will have 82 AR, 66% Resist Magic, and 30% Reflect Spell (assuming I get Spellbreaker). Of course she only has those defences when her Shield spell is up. If she doesn't cast it, her AR is much lower (28 in round 1 and 32 in round 4)

Looks good! you will be given the spell drinker amulet instead of the amulet of axes though since the amulet of axes is not an artifact.

About the armorer, i had it in the wrong section, it is under armor and it is 1000 extra drakes you get. I had it under armor as well and forgot to remove it

Anyone who has submitted a new char may want to read these changes and edit their characters appropriately. I will not penalize you on your entrance times, as this was my mistake. Anyone who submits char after this and edits will be moved to the bottom from now on.

@Gurkog- There is only one character per person :)
If we need one we will use that char though

Morvalien wants me to tell you guys that she demands 11 more people sign up quickly. She is itching to blow someone up and the waiting annoys her. She also says that she is eager to prove that Crazy Jim was just an amateur and that there better be a proper reward for winning the championship or else she will get upset. And I can assure you that it's not good whens she gets upset.

I also noticed a potential problem. Bosmer start invisible, which gives them an extra attack, but what happens if you have 2 Bosmer fighting? They'd both be invisible and the fight would never start. If that happens you'll have to remove their racial ability for that one fight.

Apotheosis is powerful, but it isn't an artifact. It looks just like a regular staff. And John didn't impose any limitations to the power of the staves we can use so I'm assuming that if you have the gold for it, you can use it. Apotheosis is also pretty expensive, I used up nearly half my budget on it.
