Modded or unmodded?

Post » Thu Aug 04, 2011 6:24 pm

As I′m in the habit of making polls I came up with this one. Not the first thread on this topic but hey, long time no see! And obviously this poll is only for PC players

Myself I run just a few minor ones. Spell Delete, Forest Friend (both) and FG porter nofollow. That′s it! I know many gamers have like 200+ mods and you don′t have to write them all down like I did. But maybe you can give us a number to go with your answer? Or in any case, why do you play modded/unmodded?

The reasons I don′t have more mods, as there are quite a few good ones out there, are simply because I′m satisfied with vanilla Oblivion and not to mention, lazy.

150 at a minimum and close to 240 maximum.

oblivion is the one game that i could not have finished had mods not existed. as it was i ended up putting it down until sabers level scaling mod came out. only then could i finish it.

I was originally a 360 player and had my first experience of Oblivion on the console. I loved it and I still do, but last year I finally bought myself a very good PC and decided to try Oblivion, purely for the great modding community.
Over the past year, since having bought the PC version, I was playing with mods intermittently.
I'd often start a game with a few mods, forget about it and remove the game, only to repeat the process a few weeks/months later.

At the start of summer I decided to just go for it considering there's not many good games coming out until September at least so I started by finding graphical mods, which then turned to weapon mods, to armour mods, and gradually I just started finding more and more.

I'm currently using a total of 96 mods I think, which isn't a huge amount, but enough so that the game still feels fresh and exciting, despite me having played for a good hundred or so hours on the Xbox.
I love my modded game, but I still could just as easily go back to the vanilla version and have no complaints.

Well, I, unlike you, was immensely dissatisfied with vanilla Oblivion, so I have included a number of mods that make up for things like the horribly aged graphics, the broken level-scaling, the garbage UI, the clunky engine... you get the picture. Along with some other expansion mods that I simply thought looked good to help extend the gameplay and enrich the world.

Basically, I've gutted my game and rebuilt it from the ground up. :)

The list is over 100 data files long at this point. And all extremely well balanced to minimize crashes. So not only am I heavily modded, but I've got a stable game as well. That took a lot of time to get right, let me tell you.

My list is around 25 mods and most of them are small. Several horse mods, some cosmetics, a few utilities, some very minor game play tweaks, portable campsite, etc. I don't have any mods for: graphics, quests, leveling, overhauls or mods that 'force' you to eat/drink/bathe/sleep since my character does those things with no prompting from me or the game. Things run nice and smoothly and I'm very happy with my set up. :)

I run 200 to 225 active mods, but what I am able to run is limited by my lack of available RAM. I have to try and keep the RAM usage of my installed mods running under 2.5 Gb, because of the age of my computer (laptop).

A few dozen mods. Nothing that significantly changes game play, other than a leveling mod and an alternate start mod.

Modded. Mods are what keep the game alive, for me. Open cities, new landmasses, new cosmetics, some new textures, new experience system, many new quests... Oh and one eat/drink mod. And one hundred others that I can't remember because I don't have it here.

I use mods, but at the moment just those of my own making. A few leveled list balancing, some vendor tweaks and custom armor, and a couple of houses. Overall I've been pretty much satisfied with what BGS produced in Oblivion.

I've owned Oblivion since late winter / early spring 2009 and am on my second play-through (with no pause in-between the two). My first play-through began unmodded. I added a few utility mods and one house mod (in the Shivering Isles) early on but otherwise left the game pretty much unaltered until having exhausted most of the vanilla content my avatar felt comfortable doing. I then began adding quest mods (Lost Spires and Kvatch Rebuilt were the first) and a few mods that, for me, made nighttime adventuring more realistic and enjoyable (OC_darker_nights, AWLS, DroplitTorchesOBSE). Other than that I installed the ImpeREAL series (Forts, IC, Castles), Darker Regal IC, and eventually added a companion (Neeshka) and some armor for her (Black Luster). Seems like my Wrye-Bash ESM/ESP total hovered at around 54 near the end.

This play-through I kept most (but not all) of my many quest mods and added a LOT more graphics enhancers. (I even took a pitiful stab at Landscape LOD creation.) Only now, at well over one-thousand hours of play THIS PLAY-THROUGH, have I made my first tentative foray into game-play altering mods .....Enhanced Economy and Duke Patrick's Combat Archery. My Wrye-Bash ESM/ESP count still isn't all that high, 72, but that's a bit deceptive. It doesn't include a number of mods whose ESPs are merged into my Bashed-Patch, as well as many texture / mesh / LandscapeLOD / RAEVWD mods that don't have ESPs.

I'm still overall content with the game's underpinnings, but am thinking to add more 'immersion' and realism mods, though that might wait until my NEXT play-through. I still don't see myself needing any of the major overhauls though I'll not rule them out next go-round.

Myself I run just a few minor ones. ... Forest Friend (both)

Yay! :D

I have about a hundred or so, but I do not use them all with every character. The ones I use globally tend to be the smaller ones that only change small parts of the game. Like the Keychain mod. Many of them I make myself to fix things I do not like. Such as one I made to fix the leveling issues by giving larger bonuses for fewer skill increases, or to change the birthsigns to remove the once a day powers and replace them with either powers that can used repeatedly, but cost magicka and/or fatigue, or ones that are constant in effect. Dearest to me are they voice mods by BruceVayne. I just cannot play the game without hearing the voices of my beloved Imoen or Viconia coming from my characters.

The ones I activate or deactivate depending on the character tend to be ones that add an article of clothing or an item that character is going to use. For example, I took http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Aela01.jpg staff from a larger stave mod and made a stand-alone mod from it. I changed the coloring, and the enchantment, and made it the quest reward for the Mages Guild staff quest (if you choose the Frost staff). Since Aela is the only character who is going to use the staff, when I switch to another character I will deactivate it. Likewise, I made a small mod that makes her part-owner of A Warlock's Luck in Bravil, so she can live there with Ungarion. But after her, I will turn that off too.

Modded, but not heavy. I just use some little ones that don't change the game too much, because I like to play games as vanilla as possible. I don't like quest or item mods. The most noticable mod I have is alternative start by ship. Other than that I have forest friend, book jackets, harvest flora, clocks of cyrodill and players diary. I also have some technical things like all the unofficial patches and streamline, but I don't consider these mods, if someone asks if the game is modded, because they don't change the gameplay.

I'm using your Forest Friend mod, too, for my Wild Elf character. In fact, I'd say it was your mod that made the character possible. :)

My thoughts exactly. Hmm. Do I have another profile here that I use in my sleep?? :ahhh:

I play with some mods. A couple graphics enhancers, obviously the unofficial patches, some armor and weapons mods, and Alternate Beginnings because I completed the main quest once and that was it for me. Now I just run around killing things. Good times. I don't use any major overhaul mods, but I was looking to add MMM in the next week or so, just to add some spice to my life. Or something like that.

Only running the OOO mod on my pc version.
Although I prefer playing on the xbox 360, that way I know for sure that I won't use cheats.
Ofcourse this could be done on the pc just as easy, but everytime I play on the pc something in me makes me wanna cheat :S

I run about 125 mods, a lot of which are armor/clothing mods that go untouched on most characters. Most of the major ones are body mods, then things like Unique Landscapes, Open Cities, and All Natural. I also use a couple of animation replacers, nothing that makes things too fancy or over-the-top or sixualized, just modest changes for a little variety. I also use "pose" mods because I like to take screenshots.

I honestly don't use that many gameplay changes, outside of MMM. I've never tried OOO/FCOM because, from the looks of it, I don't want to fight 50 enemies at once.

Mostly, I try to stick with mods that only improve upon (in my opinion) the vanilla game, making things look nicer or graphically enhanced, or just to add some lore-friendly things like armor, weapons, and clothing. All of my mods are lore-friendly.

 Actually it seems very stable for all that I have running. I did have to patch it to allow more then 2GB of RAM used, as its easy to hit 2GB used with all of those running. Eh...it put up a small fight, but it runs 50-60FPS in the wilderness, and drops to 30 or so when in cities.

Modded, but with almost nothing that changes gameplay other than tweaks here and there - darnified UI, map marker overhaul, ST hotkeys, better mercantile, enchantment restore over time, bunch of little things like that... One enormous and ongoing collection of hair, eyes and races. HGEC body and Natural Faces. A weapon rebalancing mod of my own. Lots and lots of custom armors and clothing and weapons, though those are situational - just the ones I decide to use with whichever character I'm playing. And a few other quests and additions that are also on a per-character basis - Belda Elysium for Bob, our own SubRosa's Witchcraft for Hanna, Maple Leaf Cottage for Lydia.... that's about it. I probably run 30 or so mods with any given character.

Return to IV - Oblivion
