Modders: "Credit me, but I'm keeping my name secret"

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:18 pm

I'm only just now learning that mods are often developed and released on forums... that hadn't occurred to me. I'm going to pay closer attention to these pages so that I don't miss something awesome that doesn't get released on, say, planet elder scrolls.

Some people don't really care for PES for any number of reasons. Trolls are probably the biggest one. If people don't like your mod here, they generally just don't say anything. On PES, they're more likely to insult you.

I have a feeling that a lot of modders abandon any thought of doing something like that out of fear of insults. If there's any type of ES fan that I despise, it's the people who freak out whenever something breaks the lore, or even just comes close to doing so.

Exactly. My policy is this: If someone plays it and finds an error in the Lore, I ask that they politely let me know and site references to something official from Bethesda showing what it should be, and I will correct it. If someone can't site an official reference from Bethesda, then I'm not going to get frustrated over it. I decided on this policy when someone told me that my depiction of Nerevar was incorrect "because he wears a helmet," and when asked for reference for what he looks like with the helmet off, I was pointed to some fan art and some helmeted concept art from Tamriel rebuilt. I know he was just trying to help, but I'm sure that when the thing is released, I'll hear from some actual haters. But hate has no place in my world.

Well, Dana, I didn't get a chance to look until now but your stuff looks really high quality and interesting. Looking forward to it. I don't know how many haters you'll get in the twilight years of Morrowind, as most of the immature brats have probably (hopefully?) moved on to more current games. Either way who cares, you know you're good, and anyone with eyes and a brain will too.

My rule is this: If I can't see it/read about it from playing any of the games, it's not official or canon or reliable. End of story. Fan art = irrelevant. A fan drew it. Not a developer. Concept art = not good enough. There's a reason they call it "concept" art. It's like when a game is still "beta", nothing is really final yet.

I don't trust anything that I can't find in the games.

Hmm. I worked with a person whose first name was "Darko". He lives up too the coolness of the name. He's Serbian, he's an EMT, he's an 'ex' PMC wink-wink. Given his background and what he did or doesn't do in Iraq as the case may be, he's basically a legal, highly trained Assassin....

Thanks, Meldiocre :) Yeah, let's hope so.

Black_Hand - yeah, outside of the United States, Darko is generally a first name. If I get death threats, I'll ask you to send out your friend. ;)

I just want to say that I'm very happy to get such honest, courteous responses to my question!

'eh, this is a good forum with good people.

Hell, they've put up with me for the last seven years.

I don't think I am imaginary. I exist in the real world quite the same as you, thank you very much!
That's exactly what voices in my head always tell me. I can't resist their honesty.

I use one name for the north American wildlife art I create which is sold for real money, and am known as "Lady MorningStar" when I create fan-art or anything else that is for/from gaming. The reason is that my art appeals to very different audiences. Those who like and purchase my wildlife art are typically middle-aged to older mid-westerners who are into the outdoors, hunting and fishing. These particular people are often put off by the sort of art I create that is based on the Elder Scrolls and other games. Not always, mind you. There are exceptions to everything, but most of them don't care for my paintings of Elder Scrolls elves, who, with their pointed ears and sometimes revealing clothes, look like demons to those who buy my wildlife art.

One person who loves my elk paintings once came across one of the paintings I had done of Dagoth Ur and remarked in a disillusioned tone, "Oh....I didn't know you did stuff like this." It was obvious that he was very put off by my fantasy art. Yes, I know, it shouldn't matter, but unfortunately to some people it does. So...again, one name for the art that earns money, and another for my gaming art. It's better that way.

I remember the name from mods or artwork. Was that your old forum name? I know some people started new ones fairly recently but I figured most people had gotten their old accounts back after "the hacking incident". Plus I see your account as been used since 2007, so I guess you've had it for a while.

I used to have "Elricwolf" as well as this one, can't remember the reason, maybe losing the password or something, but when I emailed a Mod about combining my post count from both accounts they informed me that having 2 accounts was against the rules and they arbitrarily closed the other one (which I think had the older join date. :( ). I kinda liked this spelling better, so I just kept this one with the new mantra "leave the Moderators alone". :whistling:
