Modding and Skyrim

I'ts nice that your trying to make your own experience but when you basically scrap the game that developers worked years on making just to build your own game without paying for the licensing fee, it is such an insult.

Dude, your a smart guy and we see eye to eye on most things but with this you have gone too far. Who the hell do you think you are? Bethesda was kind enough to give us the tools and with them comes the power and permission to make a total conversion if we wish. Argue game play and semantics till you rot and I care not but I draw the line at attacks on the fundamental core of this community. Quite frankly you haven't earned the right so S T F U.

*cheers*

If they didn't want us to tweak the game to how we wanted they wouldn't give us the kit. If all developers wanted their game to stay in the vanilla version we would never see many of the amazing games and game mods we take for granted. Thank you BGS for doing this and thank you Worm for speaking my point for me.

It's already been confirmed that there is going to be a creation kit for the PC users.

First, if they don't have modding, Bethesda is shooting themselves in the head. (Yes, head, not foot.)

Second, I LOVE to mod, so that will cause a chain drop in respect for them and I will not be buying the game.

Third, they have already confirmed a modding kit for us to mod the PC version, just like the other games.

I totally agree with you! I also heard already some time ago that modding will be in, and that was to be expected, but I made it an option in the poll to see how important modding is to people. Turned out that 25% of the voters would not buy Skyrim without modding! That's quite surprising, isn't it? Did not think modding was this important to that many people!

BTW changed my poll so it's clear that answer #1 is hypothetical

Modding tools are the deal breaker if absent. I bought Oblivion because Bethesda licensed Fallout; I eventually bought Fallout 3 for the modding tools, and afterward bought FO:NV for the modding tools and a 'benefit of the doubt' 2nd chance. I like FO:NV, but not enough to pass muster without the modding tools, (though the enhancements in NV are quite appreciated :tops:).

As of FO3 there is no longer enough left to hold me to future Fallout titles without mod tools and a mod community ~their never was with TES. If Skyrim has a noticeable improvement on Oblivion (besides dismemberment) ~and has free tools that are equal or better to the CS/GECK, then I expect to buy it eventually; though not immediately.

My laptop (and cruddy PC) can't even run Oblivion (even when I spent some money upgrading it!), let alone Skyrim, so I will be playing on the consoles.

Consoles do not have the ability to mod, so no mods for me, unfortunately. =(

First thing I look for are bug fixes (community patches, bug fix mods, etc.). After I play a while, then I look for mods to fix things I don't like, and to add mods that improve things.

I wanted to vote choice 1. but I would probably pick it up at some point if I found a cheap copy even if there wasn't a Creation Kit. I would have lost a lot of interest though, and would just be spending time tinkering in the other engines I dev for.

It would have been modded to some degree regardless of official mod tools anyway.

as for modding on day one... probably will happen if possible :D.
Ghogiel will be pissed without his completely unique daedric mace no one else has, and perhaps his fav armor.
And I'd probably mod in multiple summoning if it's not in.

I'll play vanilla at first, but add mods later for definite

You've only got to look at the first page of this very forum for the reason why mods are essential. At any given point there are a ton of threads worrying about 'Will the game have this feature?'. Most times, whilst its interesting to read the thread, I'm just sitting back and thinking that I don't really care whether it will be in the game - because I just know that someone is going to mod it in within a short time.

I don't know non-PC users can stand to see how much mods are able to fix things for us PC users

I will try to play without mods first. But if Skyrim is anything like Oblivion I won't even be able to get through the main quest without adding a few mods to tweak gameplay.

Mods have gotten less and less important for me over time.

With Morrowind I used plenty of mods, with Oblivion only a few, with Fallout 3 one, and with Fallout: New Vegas none.

First play-through is generally vanilla, with a running mental list of what needs to be "fixed" as I go along.

Subsequent play-throughs get more and more heavily modded.

That's pretty much how I'll play my beth games. Some games are more about enhancing and adding for fun and tend to have not to many mods in general (MW, NV, FO3), and some require some serious overhauls (OB, some parts of MW, a little of FO3).

Currently, FO:NV only has a few mods, mainly to make the game more challenging by making it more dangerous, adding more hair and eyes, and some other cosmetics. FO3 is similar, but with much more weapons and armor. MW needed an upgrade on graphics, new level system, allow a little bit of magic regeneration, and other stuff. OB has been modded to freaking hell. Contains a ton of gameplay overhauls, cosmetics, armor/weapons, but also a ton of really nice quests.

Same here. 1st playthough is nearly mandatory to do it without mods. But in the next ones I love to roleplay deeply, and more mods and more complexity, all the better.

I loved making mods in Oblivion. They were pretty awesome IMHO. Never shared them though. But anyway, I'll download a few mods to improve the experience, but I'll mainly be making my own.

I always get the gameplay enhancers, FCOM for oblivion and FOOK for fallout. After my first playthrough.

I also enjoy extra quest mods.

And 20th century weapons.

Oh and texture/graphic enhancers.

Wtf. You should have added a suggestion that deals with actually MAKING the mods rather than looking for mods.

I create TES mods, but I hardly ever look for other mods. I might actually start looking for mods after a few months to a year from the time I get the game.

I have a home made mod that I have worked on for a few years.
A whole new land mass(es) with ships to travel to different continents.
It'll never be finished - it's a hobby for me like collecting stamps or something, never ending.

Please release if you haven't already. It sounds epic.

Kind of an interesting comparison... I use lots of mods for Morrowind and Oblivion, but only a couple for Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Elder Scrolls holds my attention longer, my emotional attachment is far greater, so I end up adding lots of mods. Fallout is fun, I play awhile and then just go back to my ES addiction.

I'll be doing what I did in Oblivion. Play through for about half a year, then go mod hunting for things I'd like added/changed. Plus, it gives the modders some time to bestow their godly gifts upon us.
