Modding Basics

Post » Mon Sep 05, 2011 8:55 am

I'm going to try this modding thing once again. I've been trying to get into it on and off for awhile now, but have never been able to quite figure it out. :brokencomputer:

For starters...

While installing the Morrowind Graphics Extender, I got an error message that says, "Your version of Morrowind is not compatible with MGE. MGE requires a fully patched copy of Bloodmoon. (i.e. Morrowind Version 1.6.1820)"

My copy of Morrowind is not GOTY. Is there any way around this?

...And I sort of asked this in the MGE-specific thread, but no one answered. And I can pretty much guarantee that I'll have more questions about modding unrelated to the MGE, so I thought it would be okay to post here.

This almost goes under another section rather than mods.

I want to say no. However the patch is free to download from the Bethesda site. Make sure your game is installed in the order of Morrowind, Tribunal, and then Bloodmoon.

You'll need to pick up the bloodmoon patch.

That's the north american version. The other versions should be in the same section. :D

Edit: Ninja'd.

This is the route to go, even though I don't have Bloodmoon?

As I mentioned, my version is just the original release of Morrowind, not Game of the Year (so I don't have Tribunal or Bloodmoon).

You don't have to have the expansions to use the patch. While you won't have any of the resources that come with the expansions, the patch will add some commands and such to the MW .exe. There were script functions and other things added by the expansions. The patch will allow you to use these functions, which is why MGE requires the patched version of MW.

If you plan to make mods, you'll probably need to use one of the GMST vaccine mods, so that you don't get the "evil GMSTs". Wrye's version can be found http://www.elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1928. :D

*Gasp* So is mine... It's a miracle! I ended up buying each expansion separately (Then two weeks later they had it as a trio set... annoyed me :(!)

The patches not only upgrade the executable, but also modify the esm files a little to give you the GOTY equiv state.
