A Model Request

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 9:22 am

I'm currently making a house in Morrowind, which I intend to be modernized. By modernized, I mean that I want to have modern conveniences inside it, which are: ceiling fans, vents, wall socket power plugs, a refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, a laptop computer, a big flatscreen TV, a DVR/VCR, and an Xbox 360. (Oh, if only I had Garry's mod...)

The problem is that I don't know how to model nor texture any of these things... I don't intend for any of these things to be functional in the game, only static objects placed throughout the house I am making. If anyone knows of a resource mod that even partially meets my request in one way or another (furniture resource mods), I would appreciate a link to it if you have it. If not, I hope its not too much of a request to ask if someone would make textured models of these things for me to use.

There was a mod resource by RedguardSlayer a long time ago with an Xbox I know. And there have been a few modern models converted to Morrowind, Also, get all of mightyjoeyoung's stuff, he slipped in a few modern models in his mods and packs. There were some modernish things in KingKong's Kilgore's Home Furnishings mod. I would start there. Last, there were some nice things in a couple of Snakebitten's mods. I know that mightyjoeyoung, KingKong and Snakebitten were all very sharing and allowed their work to be used in other mods. And the xbox made by RedguardSlayer was a modder resource.

Then go to the free model sites and find some lower poly models that you like and do a request thread on the mods forum. If people see that you have done a lot of work already finding models already converted, they are more likely to convert or make some for you. :)

I have some of these for my TC, but I'm not sure which I converted and which were inherited from AoA (the usage rights were very strict and tightly negotiated for AoA and getting permission wasn't easy, nor (unfortunately) something I can pass on). I know a few computers were in there, refrigerators, possibly a stove. Some of those things I don't remember finding, though (and I scoured the web for modern resources for MW), so you're probably going to need to roll your own on some counts. For the others, I'll see what I can find for you, if I can track down where it came from.

Now, what RWTS said about getting them off free model sites is definitely your best bet. Go Google a few sites and you'll be able to pick up copies of everything you need. Converting them is a royal pain in most cases (some are high-poly, some low, some aren't UV mapped, some have been exported with double-sided polys, some have inverted polys; they tend to be messy), but you'll definitely be able to find some you like for each thing you've listed, those are all common models.

You might also look for third-party Fallout 3 mods. I know there is a flat screen TV, DVD player, laptop, etc. There is also an Xbox 360 for Oblivion - and if you want retro, a Nintendo 64. All of these can be readily converted with blender (or even nifskope with a bit of effort)

You will, of course, need to check permissions - but I believe all of those are free for anyone to use.
