Modeling Armor

Post » Thu Jul 15, 2010 3:11 am

Hey everyone!

I've been looking for a tutorial on modeling armor for morrowind, and haven't been able to find any. I read the blender noob to pro tutorial etc but there are some things I'm still wondering about, such as:

How many polys should I shoot for with each armor piece?
How do I know what size to make my armor? do I load a better bodies mesh and build the armor onto it?

That's it for now but I may add more questions to this thread as I encounter snags.

Thanks in advance :D

There are some tutorialshttp://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/tutorials

The least possible, not so many it will impact pc performance and not so few it looks too crude.

How do I know what size to make my armor? do I load a better bodies mesh and build the armor onto it?

Depends on the type of armour, if you make a cuirass that completely covers the torso for example then that mesh when equipped would replace the torso mesh used by better bodies or whatever torso mesh is present but if the armour is say an armoured bra and much flesh is showing then best to build the armour onto the better bodies torso mesh. and that replaces the unarmoured torso mesh when the armoured bra torso mesh is equipped,.

I think helms are an exception as they have to fit over a head , and if not big enough then certain head meshes will poke through.

The best thing is to examine armour meshes made by other people and that should give some pointers on what to do , i don't make models myself but that is what i would do :)
