Modern themed TES game?

I'd really, really, really love to see how Bethesda would make TES "modern" without completely obliterating every scrap of lore they've written.

no
and I find kind of furutistic vision for fantasy games where magic fails and elves start wearing costumes and riding cars kind of pathetic. It just looked ridiculous in Arcanum.

the people writing such settings should actually get off their butts and use their [censored] imagination. Future for tes would be different from earth-s 21th century, there would never be such thing as science vs magic for example

I agree, I'd completely go with a future that doesn't have to do with the 21st Century type of future. Maybe it could show how magic developed everything, and maybe instead of traveling space they could travel the spirit realm and use spirit energy as well as magic. Or something.

My point is if they made a new kind of future besides super-technological advancement and cars, I'd be fine with it.

You come to the core fanbase of the elder scrolls and ask about drastically changing the setting, what sort of response were you expecting

Exactly what I was thinking, to be honest.

I wasn't going to, but now...

downfall, decay, and destruction of TES! The atrophy, bane, bankruptcy, bath and breakdown of all that we know and love. Collapse, confusion, crackup, crash, crumbling of all that i ever knew. Damage, decay, defeat, degeneracy, degeneration, demolition, destitution, destruction, deterioration, dilapidation, disintegration, disrepair, dissolution, downfall of the great empire known as TES. Downgrade, extinction, failure, fall, havoc, insolvency, loss of the dragon throne after the future became its enemy. Nemesis, overthrow, ruination, skids, subversion, the end, undoing of all that has been made. Waste, waterloo, wreck, wreckage, a dragon break has rendered the whole cosmos apart! etc. etc. :swear:

In all seriousness, a Modern Themed TES game wouldn't work very well in the end. It's not about a "The One and Only Holy Unchangeable TES Conservation Movement", it's about it just not working very well with TES's unique world.

I'd like to a new steampunk IP.

That would be pretty cool. In fact, as cool as Fallout is, I'd like to see them do something like that and maybe hand Fallout over to Obsidian (assuming New Vegas doesn't svck and is pretty good).

I'd be like bioshocky elderscrollsy openworldrpgy awesomeness!

Bethesda should make some sort of science fiction game, but UNRELATED to The Elder Scrolls.

It could be set in a future where humans have to stand up for themselves against long established alien civilizations while at the same time trying to stop the destruction of all intellegent life by a unstoppable machine race that nobody believes exists. And it could be called Large Result.

Oh wait... :P

Nah but seriously I agree with you. You ever play Escape Velocity? That was a cool game, not as cool as it could have been, but still really cool. Imagine like combining TES with Escape Velocity, it would be uber. Really uber considering the fact that no one makes real open world space exploration and combat rpgs. Like Freelancer + Fallout 3 + TES + Escape Velocity. That would be awesome.

As in, you know - not post-apocalyptic. I'm not a fan of those types of games. (or movies)

No thanks. Although some of the imagery from Loveletter from the Fifth Era implied that the distant future in Tamriel would have digital technology..for the purposes of the games let's keep it old school.

A tad late, but I don't think that's what the Loveletter was implying. You're supposed to take it metaphorically, I believe. Then again it is MK gobbledegook.
As for the topic, if Beth wants to do something "Modern" they should just stick to Fallout or just create a new series of games.

As far as "modern" goes, I'd not mind seeing things progress to a, say, Renaissance to somewhere in the Victorian era as far as "progress." That range has potential. I think the struggle between the old ways of doing things and the new would be an interesting ground for storytelling.

Why would they do that.Keep science fiction away from TES it should be kept pure fantasy as it always has been and also no modern setting. For all of that there is Fallout.

indeed NO!

Elderscrolls should alway remain a fantasy RPG, i have no objection to a Modern game but please let it have nothing to do with Elderscrolls

i am praying the next one doesnt have guns of any description, no even sure i would like an "upgrade" to crossbows

i am sure that i have mentioned this in another topic... but because Nirn has magic, a need for development of technology past elderscroll's current technology would be unrequired

Cross bows and gunpowder already exsist in previous TES games

Wouldn't make any sense
In TES people have learned to harness magicka, which defeats the incentive to develop machines and other technology while magicka is preferred
Why develop cars or planes when you can teleport?
Why create a gun when you can hurl a fireball?

Modern themed

Which TES technically is, if you're talking the era of art called Modern.

Still, I want my roaring twenties TES.
