I know this sounds like a Troll or Flamer topic, but, honestly, it's not.

I am greatly enjoying the dissection, anolysis, criticism, praise, suggestions, community and all of it that I see on gaming forums.

I even enjoy the debates and some of the troll bait.

I wonder what makes Videogames so very important to us in modern culture. What need does it fulfill?

As a gamer of more than 40 years (I'm going all the way back to the D&D days on tabletop with a pencil), gaming has always been an important outlet for my own creativity (thus my love of RPG games), but I have never been particularly competitive or one who chases accomplishments or trophies, yet, in the last 4 or 5 years, games have come so far that they have become an integral part of my entertainment life.

What, and why do y'all love about videogaming? What need does it fulfill in you? Is Fallout 4 special in any of those ways or is it just another game?

I truly would be interested.

Escapism and Idealism.

Relaxation and satisfying a desire to see new horizons or concepts brought to life in ways I'd never thought of.

I've seen things you wouldn't believe... (unless you've played the games) etc etc.

But, you know, I'm happy to play Nintendo games and people think that you must some kind of moron if you enjoy "kiddie games" like that.

Call of Duty and the like can bite my anus.

I play video games because I have seen all the TV shows and Movies. Not that I watch TV all that much, but I have seen every plot, contrivance and heard every joke there is. I can even anticipate what the jokes are going to be now before the set up. Movies have just become CGI fests and reboots of Superhero Origin stories I am not that interested in to begin with. Yes, Peter Parker got bit by a spider and did not fit in in high school. Do I really need to see that movie every 3 years?

So, gaming is my entertainment. Some games let me shoot off steam, some games let me be somebody else (my favorites) some games just give me a diversion for a few minutes. My GF works evenings so I am left to my own devices most weeknights. So, I play games. MY GF also likes this as I am not out in the bars or clubs and I don't spend my weekends golfing or hunting.

Because games let me role play as someone else. When I play Madden Football, I am a quaterback or reciever making a game winning touchdown. When I play Call of Duty(yes, I like it) I am a professional soldier killing the enemy. When I play Civ 2 or 4 on my PC, I am the ruler of an empire conquering the world and leading my people to glory!

I get to be all those people I could never be in real life.
