Modified mesh not taking texture

I'm venturing into the wonderful world of Blender, and need some help already. For practice, I opened a vanilla mesh in Nifskope 1.1.3, selected the node I wanted to modify, then exported it as an OBJ file. I then imported the OBJ file into Blender 2.71 and spent the next 3 days learning the god-awful Blender interface. After a lot of trial and error, I was able to remove vertices & modify the object the way I wanted. I then exported it as an OBJ file and imported that OBJ into Nifskope as a new NiTriShape.

Here's the rub - the shape in Nifskope won't show the texture regardless of which DDS file I point it to. I tried inserting a BSShaderPPLighting node (with BSShaderTexture) but that didn't work. Back in Blender, I confirmed that the texture is there and (I think) is being exported correctly.

Any ideas for what I should check?

Are you doing a copy-branch from an existing NIF with a similar material to what you want for a BSShaderPPLightingProperty?

Do you have a NiMaterialProperty spliced as well?
