Mods Advice + FCOM

all those esp files that say they are missing masters in your BOSS load order, are they in your data folder? i would try using Wrye Bash to ghost them, or deleting them from your data folder. one problem i've had with modding oblivion was having too many .esp's, .bsa's, or .esm files. the active cap is 255, and there's another cap of around 350-400 (so even if they are inactive, mod files in your data folder that exceed that amt will cause the game to crash). i don't know if you had that many of those files in your data folder, i didn't actually count your BOSS loadorder, but surely cleaning out the unused mods would help anyways.

crojob: You keep on asking different questions everytime, but don't seem to want to resolve one issue before you jump to the next one.

Re: mp3s: You don't need to rename new mp3s, just dump in the appropriate folders, and they should work fine. Suggest stripping mp3 tags before you do that, else you could get freezing issues. You delete the old ones only if you don't want to hear them. PS: Make a backup before deleting them.

Re: OSR doing nothing?? You DID NOT read the readme :stare: . OSR is the single best thing that has improved Oblivion. You have not configured it right.

Re: Wrye Bash BAIN, read the Wrye bash pictorial guide on nexus.

Re: DarnUI: Install it using the omod, you should have everything you need. If you add any mods that alter menus (Enhanced Economy), they should be installed after Dark Darn UI. If you did not install this right Oblivion will crash. Uninstall and reinstall the omod.

PS: Stop blaming the tools. You know what they say, a bad workman blames his tools. I thin kyou need to read up tescosi (you'd have known the issue with Dark Darn UI) if you had read tescosi's troubleshooting section.

Dude, I just outlined what I did with DarnUI, it can't get any simpler, no other mod I have alters the UI. As it looks now, I have to erase everything and start over again,. thanks to using an omod. DarnUI didn't do this last time I used it, but I guess you can't expect everything to work the same every time. There really seems like nothing else that can be done.

As for OSR, yes, I have it, the game has still crashed before... what else is it supposed to do? It does nothing for performance, since my game can't run any better than it already does realistically speaking. My PC is overkill for oblivion. That's probably part of the problem. I don't get random stuttering, low frame rate or the like. I simply get crashes.

I asked more than one question, because we are capable of multitasking are we not?

Edit: That's interesting, I have changed nothing in my setup, infact I went and took a nap, now when I try to play oblivion it crashes upon loading the main menu.

There is no overkill that exists for Oblivion. In order for overkill to exist for Oblivion, it'd need to be a 64-bit executable and would either need to be optimized for modern CPUs. OSR is a heap replacer, primarily.

My PC is overkill for oblivion. That's probably part of the problem.

I've never heard such drivel.
I'm running Oblivion with an i7 960 processor, 12GB DDR3, Windows 7 Premium Pro 64, 2TB Hard Drive, ATI HD 6950 x 1024MB x2 and all sorts of other over the top hardware.
I don't appear to have your issues at all.
I've mentioned this in the FCOM thread, but your whole problems I feel stem from the fact that you wont read and simply put don't take given advice.
Until such a time arrives your going nowhere fast with your modded install.

I did do what you said, shall I copy and paste what you said, and what I told you I did? You said install mods a very few at a time. I did just that, then oblivion started crashing. I removed those mods, and the crashing has yet to go away. Now I installed DarnUI, and oblivion failed to load, so I removed it, and now oblivion fails to load at start up, no no masters are missing. In fact, for your next 5 questions the answer is probably yes, I have done/tried that. I followed all of the instructions exactly [how do you actually NOT install an omod properly? ... is it even possible?]. The mod in question which started the crashing, as I said, was Item Interchange. Also, yes, I have rebuild the bashed patch maybe 20 times today, 2-3 times with every single set up I have tried, so no thats not the issue. Yes, the mod report reports no errors and BOSS is showing no errors aswell. Wrye Bash has no red mods, there is nothing loaded which I don't already know for a fact that it works. No, I never said it was FCOM causing the crashes, [i never even implied that] I even said FCOM works fine, with no random crashing. All of this would be much clearer if I just stayed in this thread instead of jumping around. So i'll only post about these issues in this thread now, i'm not going to post in FCOM thread, the 50 step thread, the Wrye Bash thread and all of these other places.

What else do you want? Don't just assume that problems = not following what you said and no problems = following what you said. And if you had read what I have said, I am not getting any problems, just like you, EXCEPT for random crashing caused by one mod, which I have removed, but the effects are still being felt.

Slash sigh. Make sure you're using the right options in the patch menu. Also, you're better off starting from scratch right now. Also, it'll help a lot if you are using BAIN.

It only takes like 5 minutes to reinstall oblivion. I may just start over. Again.

I'll read about BAIN and see whats up.

Before you install it, make sure all traces of the previous install are gone. And I mean all traces. While you're at it, read the Bash documentation if you haven't already. Then read all the other documentation for every mod you plan to install thoroughly.

Also, please don't edit your posts after a response in response to a response after the post. Frankly, it's a bit annoying and it makes it very hard to follow what is going on. Make a new post if you are responding, it'll help with keeping track of everything.

I am actually kicking myself, back when I had FCOM working I was thinking of making a copy of my oblivion folder but I never did, I think i'll do that this time.

Edit: I am trying to avoid double posting as much as I can, So I tend to edit posts, and while I edit them people post after me.

Ditch weOCPS. It causes issues. May update this post in a bit.

If you're trying to install OOO, you're missing the ESM. Did you download the main package or not?

I did, but actually I forgot to install the patch. Which is what contains the .esm. Derp.

It is fixed, however I am missing meshes for containers again, I have DEJ Harvest Flora.bsa aswell. And I have placed all relevent mesh folders in the right places.

You're also missing the unofficial patches. You should be using them.

I added the Patches and removed the Crash Protection thing. Now oblivion crashes again. [I had added the OOO .esm, and the crashing stopped, then I removed the Crash Protection dlll and the crashing started again.]

Describe the crashes. Just saying it crashes tells us nothing at all. We need details.

Also, you're using the outdated patches.

Random crashes. I am exploring the old fort outside anvil, and it just randomly crashes when walking around. Infact ever in-game crash I have ever had has been when walking around, not when doing actions such as attacking, opening containers, switching cells, etc. I downloaded those patches about a week ago.

Wow, I think I just figured out why it crashes, isn't there something related to footstep sounds that causes oblivion to crash? I have my game's master volume set to 0 though. But the footsteps are still happening.

Quiet feet is the mod you're thinking of.

I've never had issues with footsteps, though.

Anyways, start with Oblivion and updated unofficial patches, OSR, FE, and the 4 GB patch. I'd suggest doing that before anything else. Even before quiet feet. Also, have you made any changes to the INI?

It turns out you have a similar thread in the Fallout forums right? Crashing and the stuttering looping noises?

I also see from that thread that you have the game installed to the Program Files directory.

Best practice is to install outside of Program Files.

I advise you to reinstall somewhere else, like C:\Games. If you are running Steam, you have to uninstall Steam itself and install it outside of Program Files also.

This is important.

Disabling UAC is not smart at all, for the record.

Also, keep the CPS out of your install. It causes problems. A lot of problems.

What do I really need it for? I didn't have it in XP and I survived. Infact UAC is one of the main reasons why I didn't upgrade to Vista or 7. Until very recently.

Also, this is going to really svck if quite feet fixes these issues, because that would mean the last 5 times I installed oblivion in the last 2 weeks and redid the mods 5 times because of people on these forums telling me I have to..will have been for absolutely no reason at all and have been totally redundant, when my first install had ALL of the mods working fine, and all of the meshes included, other than random crashing while walking which could have been fixed with one single mod...

I deleted it weOCPS entirely.
