Mods Aren't Optional and DPS Meter is Real [GET IN HERE]

Post » Sun Feb 23, 2014 1:40 pm

Having avoided DPS meter games and not played WoW I was a little surprised that there was THIS MUCH data available. I knew there would be enough that you'd need mods for PvP, but this to me seems like you can no-skill it since the mod tells you when to avoid, block, and interrupt.

With this one mod: http://youtu.be/_BFbBMW2ZGM you can see: individual raw damage, crit damage, target HP, XP gained, targets buffs/debuffs, CC timers/stun timers, targets resistance, CD timers, what skill target is using and whether that skill can be interrupted - AKA you can see everything under the sun with mods.

I'm not going to be dramatic (exception being thread title ) and say "WOW CLONE GAME SUX" or "NOSKILL GAME NOT PLAYING!" However, I want to know if a compromise can be reached.

In the name of the people, I plea to the developers to create an "opt-out" check box option to allow players to not be grouped with mod users. This way hardcoe players can still measure their damage to the decimal, and purist players can keep their naked UI without the worry of hindering their group.

I like my min UI as the default -- if a player want them, they can use the mods. I do not want to be forced to them or be group killed because of some numbers. It looks so ugly and silly.

I'll use the minimal UI for PvE too and mods for PvP, but I hope grouping for PvE doesn't become mod-mandatory or you get kicked.

Another good reason for me to stick to consoles. Don't "think" I have to worry too much about mods on them.

There is some people that care and some that dont. Im one that usually play with a dps meter to review my own performance.

I saw tons of people trying to kick, insult or small talk people with low dps... it give nothing but hatred in the end. Never once that someone said "oh sorry" and started doubling it.

I dont mind someone doing low dps because they dont know how to play properly or dont have the best gear yet or mess up their rotations... what i loathe is people going in the melee and do auto-attacks while being semi-afk all the run, doing like 1-2% of the dps.

Would it be possible to have a group system that automatically blocks anyone using such tools?
It is most likely not the type of players I'll enjoy my time with..

Isn't that the one that only you can see and can't link?

I was just sad that there'd only be a short window to experiment with builds and then it'd be cookie-cutter after the math was figured out. You can't please everyone though.

YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!!!!!!

If there was a option (or mod lawl) to confirm no one else in your group was using mods I WOULD LOVE THAT!!!!!!!

You sir have been promoted!

So, wait, you want a mod, to block a mod, and inform you of this mod, to block said player?

Sounds extremely hypocritical.

I guess you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain?

I don't like when people get excluded for low dps, not having certain mods, or any of the nonsense. I do like the idea of mods and having all this data available. I plan to use these types of mods to enhance my own gameplay. If you are paying for your subscription YOU should decide how to play in a way YOU find entertaining.

Lol, no need to get worked up it was just some humor. I'd prefer it be an in-game check box option to opt-out of grouping with mod users.

Otherwise you're playing with people who have mods telling them where to stand during boss fights etc.

That is what I fear and that is why I am so against this type of info in the default min UI.

It goes both ways. Maybe people dont want to waste their time carrying low dps players? After all, we all should decide how to play, right?

I agree that mods shouldnt be mandatory, but a dps mod isnt the end of the world. Its the only way to really know if you are getting better.

Perhaps a happy medium could be the dps mods dont record other players. I could go for that.

in WoW most of the guilds I was in over the years, if you linked meters you were booted.

In EQ2, my last raid guild discouraged the use of ACT if you weren't in a raid lead position. It wasn't prohibited.

And if you linked a parse without being asked for it by the leaders(say, someone at range vs melee to see if there are discrepancies), you got sat. Immediately.
