PC mods to console content

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 4:53 am

I only wish I had a PC powerful enough to play Fallout 3 or NV on PC just for all of the awesome mods but Alas poor Yorik I cannot.
So I was thinking if say the highest rated mod for Fallout NV (I don't know what it is) say it was a new hairstyle package, or something along those lines would it be possible for the Fallout team to take that successful mod and include it in a DLC or make it a standalone DLC, so that way instead of flooding the consoles with every mod just add the most popular ones. (But I think the full frontal nudity mod might get ignored which is probably best to be honest) But let me know what you think, because that way the console players would get a bit of that delicious mod pie I'm sure its a concept we can get the developers to get on board with.

Been suggested a few times. Answer is it won't happen yet.

Few reasons.

1)Quality control. In order for a mod of any size to be made DLC it would have to go through the same rigorous testing as any DLC. Since Bethesda or Obsidian would need to divert staff to do this, they'd have to charge for this mod DLC.

2)Porting. Different file system, so the mod would have to converted to something the consoles can use. Since Bethesda or Obsidian would need to divert staff to do this, they'd have to charge for this mod DLC.

3)Picking the mod. Highest rated does not always mean its the best, just that its popular.

4)External tools. A lot of the best mods require FOMM or FOSE (Or the NV equivilant when they're released). Those won'tr function on consoles, so that eliminates some of the best mods.

5)Costs. Due to the work involved in making a mod DLC, they'd have to charge people for something PC players get free. And are modders going to be happy to not get a penny for their work?

There are some other reasons, but these are some of the primary ones. So not gonna happen yet.

This is one of the main reasons why...

A. I sold my xbox 360 a few years ago to my brother in law.
B. It crapped out on him a few months after I sold it to him, lawl.

That's pretty much it yeah. This subject has been discussed to death all the way back to Morrowind in 2001, and it's unlikely that things are going to change.

You're probably going to have to wait for the next game. Many things in New Vegas were popular mods of FO3; weapon modification, hardcoe mode, iron sights. Adjusted of course, but still, Obsidian looked at what was popular and drew inspiration from it.
