Mods for Vanilla

Post » Wed Dec 29, 2010 12:17 pm

I will be quite honest, the giant overhaul mods scare the bejessus out of me. I messed around with them on and off for a while and I just can't get comfortable with the amount of stuff thrown at you. So, I would like to know of some really nice mods that are made for Vanilla.

I am also trying to find a mod to replace the leveling system in a SIMPLE way, not like Ngcd (way to complicated for me). I saw the +5 to attribute level up mod but I have also read lots of problems with it. If anyone could give me some feedback on this, I would be much obliged.

One last thing, I know of all the big lighting mods like Illumination Within and that stuff, but I can't remember this one mod I used that made things, how should I say it, "magical" in dungeons? Sort of darker but with more pronounced glows on gems and stones. If anyone could help a poor lost soul out it would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Not sure what you mean as the huge majority of mods are made for vanilla. Are you looking for a lighter overhaul? If so, check out http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1123328-tie-tamriel-immersion-experience/, which only uses vanilla resources. If you're looking for nice mods in general it would help to know more specifics.

nGCD (and Realistic Leveling) are complex but not complicated for the user - one could say the opposite as they remove all micromanaging and do everything seemlessly in the background. They are quite easy to get up and running without worrying about settings - but you can customize them if you like. They require OBSE but so do lots of brilliant mods.

Never used the +5 mod but I doubt it is problematic. It has like millions of downloads and should be rather simple/safe I'd guess. Not 100% on this as I've never used it as said. Anyway, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9914 is a safe alternative.

All Natural Real Lights makes dungeons darker but also gives light to Varla and Welkynd stones. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1147846-relz-weather-all-natural-thread-31/ is excellent in itself as well, plus makes it possible to use http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1156995-relz-wipz-immersive-interiors/.

Also, check out http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1084754-relzanimated-window-lighting-system-thread-6/.

Thank you very much for the reply. Took a look at TIE, looks interesting! Have not tried that out!
Do you have any suggestions to spice up a replay of Oblivion?

I once heard of this mod that added collectible tradings cards all throughout Cyrodil. Sounded fun, but I can't find the mod :(
Know of any other mods that add some fun stuff like that?
Also a mod that added a bunch of corpses throughout Cyrodil of player made NPC's with stuff like notes attached to them.
Having trouble finding those mods!

As Arkngt said, need specifics for a non-overhaul game, by which I assume one that does not change the game world by making NPCs and creatures tougher. Funny, I am doing the same thing but a bit different. I have been playing overhauls for years, done everything 20 times, figure to have a vanilla game and add mods to change the things I want to change. I hope to level to 25 and stop there (using Wrye leveling I can do that), then just do quests mods (quests for weapons, armor, damsels in distress, player homes, etc).

Why do you want to replace the vanilla leveling? The answer can offer suggestions to what to use. Oblivion XP is a great leveling mod in line of classic RPGs. If you want to control when you level use Wrye leveling.

Peter ID, THAKYOU SO MUCH! You struck gold with the first two mods you suggested. Those were what I was looking for!

As for replacing leveling, I got fed up of trying to carefully keep myself from leveling certain skills to always get max stats. I was wondering if I could get a mod that would let me level past 100 and to keep getting better.
Also, what mods out there make NPC's static? I.E. a rat dies in one hit CUZ its a rat even at lvl 20

I have been BROWSING CATEGORIES on tesnexus the past two days and did come across some mods from 2006 or a bit later I think that may have done that. It is time consuming to browse, especially since some mods are not in the categories you expect. So quick answer is I think they exist, its that I need to remember what it was or you can look also. I will post back if I find these as I am looking through mods right now also.

In order to advance your skills past 100, I recommend Elys Uncapper, which is an OBSE plugin, so you may not like that. Elys Uncapper doesn't improve everything, so you might want Grandmaster of Alchemy to take care of Alchemy and Legendary Abilities to take care of the rest. Personally I just go with Elys Uncapper and Grandmaster of Alchemy. Oh, and of course, I use Oblivion XP for levelling - it does help to actually use your own mods afterall

As for static NPCs if I recall, that I may not have seen, only creatures I think. The big overhauuls I think did that approach to cap the NPCs like bandits and such. Yoou could try Franceso's mod, I think it may fit what you want in that case.

Shameless self promotion, but you do good work on that mod, among others, so if you can walk the walk then you can talk the talk :)
