Mods quit working after I deleted the ini files.

Post » Sun Jan 17, 2016 9:37 pm

I was having problems with the game, crashing near diamond city, talking to specific person, going near an area new.

What I did, I deleted the Fallout4, Fallout4Prefs and the fallout4Custom .ini files in the C:\Users\my name\My Documents\My Games\Fallout4\ in order to fix the game.

It works, I have no CTD, except the the mods won't interacts with the game.

I have now in the directory mention above Fallout4 and Fallout4Prefs .ini files.

I got the idea from this web site

http://help.bethesda.net/app/answers/detail/a_id/31648
If you have edited your game's .INI file, we recommend you restore it to its default state. Many issues can be traced to modification of the game's .INI file.

So, I deleted the .ini files hoping the game will fill in the blanks of missing .ini files.

I think I'm missing the .ini file of Fallout4Custom.

How to fix?

First you need to enable the mods http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Fallout_4_Mod_Installation

Just create fallout4custom.ini and fallout4perfs_custom.ini manually.

Or alternatively, download the http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/?. This will create fallout4custom.ini and fallout4perfs_custom.ini automatically with the changes you select in it.

Any and all changes you want to do to your .ini's should be done on fallout4custom.ini and fallout4perfs_custom.ini. Leave the original .ini's untouched as much as possible. The settings in the custom .ini's override the settings in the original .ini's.

Now, it is worst, how do I reinstall the game, do I have to re-download the entire 28GB?

Actually if you delete fallout4prefs.ini file, that what you must do (otherwise the game will not work) is to verify your game cache files through steam.

Note: Not mess up with that file, it can lead to Fallout 4 crash to desktop!

That's from my personal experience with that file...so Watch it!

Then verify game cache. Steam will give you a brand spankin' new fallout4prefs.ini

Are you using NMM? Are the mods checked? What mods are you using?

Jeez man, just follow the instructions for enabling mods posted earlier in the thread. Don't delete your ini files if you don't know what it's going to do. The fact that you can use mods is enabled in the ini files, so deleting them was only useful as a troubleshooting step if you had some .ini related issue.

After you enabled mod by editing the Fallout4Prefs.ini and Fallout4Custom.ini, use NMM to enable all your mods.

And now you need Fallout4Custom.ini back once again? Your answer is already in this thread.

A list of mods is not so useful in alphabetical order. Putting them in load order is much more useful.

Fallout 4 config tool: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/102/?

ModEnabler: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2772/?

Also go into NMM and make sure everything is checked.

A list of mods always in alphabetical order in my NMM, the plugins are not.

Every time I have this code bEnableFileSelection=1 in the fallout4Pref.ini, it CTD, so I'm going to start allover again.

P.S. So long, and thanks for all the fish.

P.S.S. I'll be Bach.

P.S.S.S. etc...

bEnableFileSelection=1 must be placed under [Launcher]

That does not crash the game. If it does then you're just messing up.

Whatever makes you happy. A list in alphabetical order is still not useful.
