Mods suitable for my PC Specs? I installed QTP3 + FCOM >

Post » Sat Jun 19, 2010 2:12 am

CPU: AMD 64 x2 3600 2.00 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 512MB
RAM: 1 GB DDR2 @ 200 MHz

I succesfully installed FCOM with QTP 3 AND alternative start and as soon as I would leave the first cell (the quick start cell) the game would show a loading screen and then the bar would finish but never change cells.

I'm guessing FCOM was a little too much for my pc.
Currently I want to use ATLEAST Francesco's mod, I feel that is essential for my playing style.
I will be using various Low Poly mods (Low poly grass/trees/etc), Quiet Feet Max, Oblivion Stutter Removal, Streamline, Operation Optimization, and the Crash Prevention mod.
What are some graphical mods that aren't tooooo demanding for my pc.

I realize I have a decent video card but the cpu and the ram are definitely limiting factors. :(

I'd make sure you have successfully installed FCOM first, before making any kind of guess. If you're 100% sure about that, then maybe you're right. Still, I would've thought the game would still run... just rather slowly, to say the least.

But anyway, running with just Fran's is not at all bad. I've done that, and even though I now play with FCOM, Fran's remains one of my favourite mods of all time, and it does everything it needs to do, quite elegantly, IMHO.

http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18677 might be worth looking at (or http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30368, if preferred) - they're no more demanding than vanilla, but look different. Also, Bomret's http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10419 (for vanilla) could be a good option - again, adds detail / alternative aesthetics, but with little or no impact on FPS, etc.

I realize I have a decent video card but the cpu and the ram are definitely limiting factors. :(

IMNSHO, adding at laest 1GB of RAM would be the absolute minimum upgrade to go for, ASAP. The CPU isn't really flash, sure, but it's still OK. Likewise, the GPU isn't all that, but it will be fine.

edit: I would also recommend ditching Operation Optimization and the Crash Prevention mod, because they will do nothing truly worthwhile, at best.

update: linkage. :)

seriously??? the gpu is bad? >_< :brokencomputer:
My brother has an HD4870 and that's pretty good but I thought the gt 240 would be better, oh well.

I'll definitely look into those textures, currently I also have QTP 2 saved on my brothers computer (that's what he uses, qtp3 took to long to download so he just went with qtp2) is that less intensive?

Actually, I might've been thinking of another card altogether.* Not sure, really. Besides, didn't say it was *bad*! :) It used to be kinda mid-range, or the cheaper end of that. But then, that's still better than what most people use... Like I said, it'll be fine.

I think QTP2 is mostly, well, older. And probably not as nice-looking. Might be as intensive, for all I know. Hm. If you insist on QTP3, by the way, try "QTP3 Redimized", or QTP3R. A bit less demanding.

There's also QTP3 Redimized and Further Reduced, or something along those lines. If you like the general look of QTP3, but continue to have issues with it (if, indeed, that mod is a problem to start with...)

* edit: No, that was the right one. Probably not as powerful as the HD4870, IIRC. Maybe more like the HD4670...?

edit2: Er. As well, 512MB of memory for the GPU is not a great way to start, if you're loading it up with QTP3 and whatever else. I thought it was the 1GB version for a while there... Regardless, once again, I feel compelled to emphasise RAM as the priority here - 1GB is simply not enough to go messing around with a bunch of hardcoe (or, well, just about any) mods in Oblivion. Seriously.

I don't think QTP3 was the problem as much as the FCOM was, I downloaded pretty much all of my FCOM personal setup files the way I wanted my fcom to be and it totalled around 5 gigs (and this was before I even extracted the rars/zips/etc)

Your problem is not FCOM, it is QTP3 -- you simply don't have enough video memory to handle QTP3. You should be fine with QTP3 Redimized, though, or corepc's Vibrant Textures.

While that isn't very much RAM either, I don't think it's anything nonstandard from when Oblivion was released.
