MODS?

Post » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:52 pm

I've seen plenty of people talking about Modding FO3, is it worth buying the PC model for this? It seems pretty cool to be able to mod a game to make it better for you, Especially if it improves the playthrough? I'm indecident but if it is easy to Mod i probably will go for the PC version, and sack the 360 one off.

How good are you at computers? If you understand the basic structure of folders in your PC, then installing installing small quantites of mods is a trivial task. Installing a lot of mods gets more complex, but you'll learn as you go so there's no feel of difficulty.

And yeah. It is so worth it. In effect, you can tailor the game to be your perfect game.

edit: I mean, just watch the video on FWE's page on the nexus. Then consider how bland vanilla's combat was.

Then consider that, IMO, combat isn't even FWE's best improvement. And you could change the game in any direction, by even more than that.

After what I've seen, I would not even consider the console version of this game. PC only.

It's not about whether or not it's easy to mod, it's about what mods you can run. It is not terribly easy to mod but that does not stop you from using other people's mods. Peek through the contents of this forum - -all of the [RELz] and [WIPz] notated threads.. those are mods that anyone can download and use.

With the console manufacturers going to great lengths to prevent you from making mods (because they want you to get bored and move on/buy another game or expansion), but with the PC side enabling the players to rebuild the game to their liking - - - to hell with consoles, omg.

Most of the time, when a mod doesn't work it's down to user error.

Definitely worth it, I my 360 is under my bed not even plugged in because I bought Fallout 3, and Oblivion for the mods.

I also bought Morrowind which is coming (hopefully) in time for my birthday!

Aye.

Overall, mods are the very reason games like Morrowind are still being played today.. You can add pretty much ANYTHING to the game.
Personally, I think the best mods out there are those who tweak the gameplay to be more immersive and more demanding. FWE, my favorite mod, makes Fallout 3 a true post-apocalyptic survival challenge without making it annoyingly hard.

Beth devs realised that when morrowind is being played about 10 years after they games release because of the modding seen that keeps it alive and reasonably fresh. That making most of there game like this is an investment they couldn't pass up. The long term PC play is by far more financially better for their company. Plus the obvious idea bank for new games because they have all the people modding and testing all the time. They pick out which ones are right for a newer game and run with it. =)

This is a bit like asking if bio-dynamic food is worth it on a bio-dynamic forum, but yeah. I'm still playing Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 - and in all three cases it's definitely because of mods.

Funny, you're asking in a MODS forum if mods are worth it...did you expect any other answer other than yes?

I got bored with the vanilla version of all three games.
Mods extend the longevity of the game and let you tailor it to your liking.
