No Mods Work

FOMM 0.10.2 FOMM's built in invalidator toggled (on)
FOSE 1.2b3
dui f3a11/f3a11HF

Have been trying to install just DUI after getting same results when trying to run FWE on a previous install (Task manager pops up informing me FO 3 running/ not responding) it occurs as soon as the game is started from FOMM. As long as NO mods are installed FOMM will start FO 3 and the game will run without a belch, fart or hiccup (Started new game and have played from 101 to Megaton so far.

I am more then a bit baffled by this behavior as I had played the collectors edition with all dlc on this machine and had no similar issues (played on this same rigg from 11/09-3/010.) I had tons of mods installed at that time and never had this problem. The detailed error info varies but the following is the one I got when trying to run FWE 5.02 and everything else listed above.

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Fallout3.exe

If I deactivate all mods (I only have dui installed now) FO3 starts and runs from FOMM without issue. Oh, one other thing is there a way to remap the console key to something other than the ~key? The only way I can get it to work in Fallout 3 is to disable my WiFi in device manager. :banghead:

Your missing masters or your load order is wrong.

For example FWE has CALIBR and CRAFT as master, so they need to load before FWE. Should you try to load FWE without those masters, game will crash.
Also the FOIP patches have a multitude of dependencies, so it's important you pay attention to load order instructions.

That may have been the case on my first attempt (I have since uninstalled the game, all DLC, the GECK and every other app and mod I was using) then reinstalled all. All that I have installed at this time: FO 3 GOTY/DLC, GECK, FOMM, FOSE. Only mod I have installed and activated is dui and it's HotFix. I did this to see if I could just get one mod to work and it crashes the same as before. Not much of a load list to sort; I loaded all as FOMM recomended. I did find that I had omitted a file from my install of FOSE and removed all the FOSE files from the Fallout 3 folder then replaced them (all of them this time.) I'm unsure if FOSE is working. If it is its not the culprit. I can start FO 3 from launch FOSE button or the menu in FOMM and the game runs fine (DUI deactivated.) If I activate DUI then FO 3 Crashes.

Load order:

Fallout3.esm
Anchorage.esm
ThePitt.esm
BrokenSteel.esm
PointLookout.esm
Zeta.esm

DUI needs the fonts entry in the .ini file changed. Without the proper fonts loading, the game will crash on startup. Read the readme again.

This from the DarNified UI F3 page:

? Install FOMOD:

This is the recommended install method. The script will edit the ini with the proper values for you, and copy the files to their proper location.

* Back up your menus folder if you have one.
* Extract zip to Fallout 3\fomm\mods
* Activate the mod in FOMM Package Manager

I'm using this version: Download Alpha 11 - FOMOD version (RECOMMENDED) and the HotFix. I know that when I installed these on a previous install of Fallout 3 it all worked as stated and I did Not need to edit Fallout 3 .ini. I guess for some reason it is not editing the ini correctly anymore?

This is font section of Fallout.ini as it exists currently.

[Fonts]
sFontFile_1=Textures\Fonts\Glow_Monofonto_Large.fnt
sFontFile_2=Textures\Fonts\Monofonto_Large.fnt
sFontFile_3=Textures\Fonts\Glow_Monofonto_Medium.fnt
sFontFile_4=Textures\Fonts\Monofonto_VeryLarge02_Dialogs2.fnt
sFontFile_5=Textures\Fonts\Fixedsys_Comp_uniform_width.fnt
sFontFile_6=Textures\Fonts\Glow_Monofonto_VL_dialogs.fnt
sFontFile_7=Textures\Fonts\Baked-in_Monofonto_Large.fnt
sFontFile_8=Textures\Fonts\Glow_Futura_Caps_Large.fnt

Dui is not installed at this time. I have compared this to a saved FO 3 .ini form a previous install of Fallout 3 (dui was installed without any manual edit of the .ini it worked with no problems) and there is no difference.

Font section from Archived Fallout 3 .ini (previous working install)

The fomod install method automatically makes the changes to the .ini file.

It appears that your problem is that you still have the DUI changes to your .ini but since you do not have the mod installed, the incorrect font listings are crashing your game. You need to restore the default fonts listings to avoid crashing when not using DUI.

Deactivate DUI in your .esp list and the package manager, then delete the fallout .ini in C:/Users/(Your Account Name)/My Documents/My Games/Fallout3/fallout.ini

Now test the game (it will generate a new .ini file from scratch, and reset your settings to default).

Re-activate the DUI fomod and go through the prompts again. Now activate dui and install the hotfix and it should work.

Thans for your input guys.

My above post where I listed the fonts (so far as I am aware those are Fallout 3 ini default fonts.) It appears that for some reason DUI is not making the changes in fonts section of the ini. I cut and pasted the listed fonts from Darns page and I'm about to fire it up. Hmm, that don't work too.

Funny thing is when I first encountered this problem I had only FWE and DUI installed (for mods.) I then uninstalled everything and did a fresh FO3 install, GECK, FOMM, and for mod ONLY DUI... no dice.
So I then Did another uninstal/install of FO3, GECK, FOMM and did not try to install DUI but I installed about 20 mods (they are all working without issue.) WTF? :confused:

What's the filename of the DUI install you are using? It should be dui_f3a11.fomod

You dont need and shouldnt use the Hotfix if you are using the FWE DarnUI patch(it already includes it). Only install dui_f3a11.fomod and then the FWE Darn UI patch after it.

There was also somewhere a file called DUIF3Extras.esp(or something like that). That esp should NOT be loaded at all.

Okay, got it working now. I had to use the Alpa 11 7zip with HotFix and edit the fonts section of the ini. Thanks for the assistance Kai Hohiro, gothemasticator, and Compulsion :clap:
