Modtool idea: New Game Plus

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2016 2:40 am

Here's the idea: Start a new game, importing a character's items, skills, and abilities.

What you keep:

-All items in inventory.

-Skills, skill progress, and level.

-All learned spells/abilities/Shouts.

What you lose:

-Perks. However you start with perk points appropriate to the imported character's level, so you effectively get a free respecialization.

-Quest progress (obviously - it wouldn't be a "new game plus" if the quest progression wasn't restarted)

-Items in "safe" storage areas and player-owned houses

-Any owned houses or land

Optionally keep:

-Character appearance and species. If you change your character's species, some skill levels might be lost.

I'm guessing this would more likely be an external save file editing tool - just remove all quests, scripts, and quest progression, then reinitialize everything.

Sounds interesting; when do you think it will be ready?

I generally do this sort of thing when I start a new game but want to "continue" a character from a previous playthrough for whatever reason. I just console in the stuff I want her to have, add levels etc. and go from there. The biggest problem with this way of doing it is that you have to remake the appearance. But I have that down to a fine science now (for the way I like my girls to look that is).

That seems like a good way to me, if a bit tedious. Even with a mod as suggested, I think I'd rather just start a new character though, all in all.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29624/? allows you to save your character's face as a preset. I highly recommend it.

I have Racemenu - but the only thing I've ever been able to do is export the head for use in the CK - as for a follower or something. I haven't been able to figure out how to import a previously saved head back into the chargen for a new toon.

You know, the Mod I am working on might be able to do this 'easily' enough--it already records Skills, Level, Spells, (Vanilla) Shouts and (Vanilla) Perks; the hardest part would probably be the 'House' stuff--from previous experience, I had a lot of trouble getting houses to register as 'bought' for some reason, but I remember it was a ridiculously easy fix once I worked out what was wrong.

@Serethil,

in Race Menu, there should be a 'tab' at the top-right called 'Presets'. Clicking that gives you the save/load list, where you just click which one you want, and whether to save it or load it. Always worked well for me. If it's worked it should make a new file under... SKSE/Plugins/RaceMenu/Presests (I think, not at my computer to check, but it is something like that)

Hmm. I think I've seen that tab but the most I've ever done with any of those tabs up there is use the camera to check the back of a character's hair! I'll give that a look, thanks!

Heh. I think most people don't realize you can use batch files with Skyrim. After all, unless you're a power linux user, you likely gave up using .bat files back in DOS....

@CDM_ Thankyouthankyouthankyou! That is just flat SLICK. I posted somewhere a month back maybe, asking how I could do that, and no one mentioned that at all! Just how to save and pull into the CK....

This along with another idea(that I brought to life..but since I can no longer code arrays, it remains unfinished) is something I've thought about attempting for a while.

That's exactly what I do when I "transfer" characters to a new game. My biggest problem is thinking "man I've got to do all those quests again". I'm thinking of the longer ones like the the thieves guild quests. I guess luckily other than the thieves guild quest for my main character, and just enough of the main quests to make dragons spawn on most of my characters, I mostly just do side quests or randomly wander around till something interesting to that character presents itself. I've read about way too many things breaking when advancing quests with a console, so that's out.

You ARE my twin brother. That's exactly what I do. I'm an "explorer" sort - I love to just trail around looking things over. I've never yet seen the whole of Skyrim on however many toons I've had over the years (hundreds belike!) - I'm still finding places I've never been before, and that is SO cool! And yeah, I don't generally chance advancing quests with the console (well.... except for Wolf Queen Awakened because I just never get it to start normally - I'm not sure I've EVER managed it normally....) but I don't have to complete it with the console. I use that little mod that starts it, and sometimes Falk has the dialogue after the courier hands me the letter and sometimes he doesn't. Generally I have to console past Styrr and get the key, then console to get the quest to go to the Catacombs. At that point though it's as if the quest "wakes up" and things are normal thereafter, including dialogue with Falk and Styrr about remains and rewards, plus the quest completion in the log.

I have one toon who's level 40-ish, never been back to Solitude after doing Man who cried wolf at around 20. In fact, she's never been back to Haafingar Hold. She's never got the letter. So in the next little while I'll activate the mod on her and finish it. So strange....

I now their has to be a way... I mean I "saved" a character after they had finished the MQ on a USB from the 360. Then when I wanted to go through "Dawnguard" with that character I copied the USB file and downloaded it and played through the DLC. Deleted the character off my 360 when I was done. When I wanted him to do "Dragonborn", I just copied the original file and downloaded the duplicate. Should be a way to put that "Thieves Guild" save in a file on the PC then then copy it when you want the character to come out and play...and keep the original file separate. Racemenu preset + a save file??? ( with MOD list in NMM or somewhere else)
