The current gun system is a pain in the neck. It could be improved if it were really modular, like real guns. I wish we could break the guns down into it's major components then store them to reassembled later.

Any gun that has a mod equipped can have that mod removed, and then stored for using later on a different gun.
That's as close as it gets, but it makes sense and is pretty handy for mixing and matching all your mods from other guns onto a legendary gun.
The current system doesn't make sense. Real guns can be taken apart completely. As it is now, I have to shift parts around from one gun to the next to end up with good guns. It would be so much better to just dismantle them all into mods then reassemble them them. Armor essentially lets you do this. The difference would be that with guns, the gun would have to dissolve into a pile or parts.
You're making the mistake many make of comparing Fallout to the real world. In the real world can you heal a broken skull by sleeping for an hour?
