Mojave Desert

Post » Tue Apr 13, 2010 2:31 pm

I was having a bit of a problem with the landscape and then I realized it's because it's just not flat enough.

Anyone notice this?

There's too many rocks and bumps and hills. That's another thing. Many of the hills aren't smooth enough either. Would like a nice big hill instead of a cluster feck of dunes.

Now, I want the bumpy/rocky parts but I'd like to see some wide open desert too. The only open desert spot is the area infested with ants. It doesn't look right on almost every part of the map.

Oh good grief. You don't like it because it's too bumpy. If they made the gameworld completely flat for 90% of the map do you have any idea the sauaging it would get from everybody for being boring? I mean, a little bit of realism in game geography is nice and all but that's just silly.

It's true what they say. You can't please everyone all of the time.

I'm going to assume that you are not very familiar with the geography of the http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&q=35.931007,-115.044036&ie=UTF8&ll=35.904625,-115.124359&spn=0.413239,0.891953&z=11 - as you can see, it's not a flat desert.

Note that you have several reference points: Black mountain (the pin on the map), goodsprings, sloan, boulder city... primm far to the south.. keep going south and you'll see nipton...

It looks like they stretched the area out horizontally (or compressed it vertically) but it's surprisingly accurate.

Creating long areas of flat terrain makes it just boring to the player. Also, the Mojave does not have many of those, so the scaled model in New Vegas is actually pretty accurate.

It's plenty flat where it needs to be. Plus, just because it's a desert doesn't mean it has to be flat. Have you ever BEEN to the Mojave? There are all sorts of hills, mountains and rock formations.

Fun Fact: The biggest desert in the world is actually in the COLDEST part of the world. A desert is a desert because it is DRY; not because it is hot ;)

Are you seriously saying the game isn't flat enough for you as is? I'm already kinda tired of being able to see the next 2 cities from halfway across the map when traveling. I'm thankful for every hill I come across; flat is bland and boring to me.
