[WIP] Mojave Motorcycle

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:41 am

Edit - Beta 1 released, new thread here:
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1299211-beta-mojave-motorcycle/

---

If you keep it between 40 and 50 MPH, it's easy to avoid crashing. Go cruising around at 60 and you'd better stick to the roads or you're cruisin' for a bruisin'. Also a crushed skull. Also, some of the roads are really bleeping steep, they're not all totally safe to fly down at top speed. I spent a lot of time puttering around north of Vegas because the land up there is fairly flat, and because the drive up to Jacobstown is pretty enjoyable (if a bit short when you're moving so fast).

If you keep it under 30 (which is slower than it sounds) you won't crash, but who drives that slow besides your grandpa?

Since the beta is uploaded and anyone can download it, it's sort've an open beta... I was kinda considering anyone who tries it to be a ''beta tester'' though it's functionally stable. I'm especially interested in feedback about the location, repair quest, driving physics, controls, crash mechanics, bugs, etc.

Go to the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1299211-beta-mojave-motorcycle/ where there's a download link, give it a whirl, and speak your mind.

By the way, I managed to get every item you suggested into the repair quest (not all at once, it depends on your repair skill).

What if I decided to rev my bike up to 60mph and slam that hunk of metal into some unlucky S.O.B.? What would happen? (I would prefer if you had Bloody Mess then they would explode into gibs and guts if you hit them hard enough)

Well my beta test was a bust (for me). Loaded up a save and my character and everyone else instant went into a motorcycle rider pose, floating a foot or two off the ground. Funny thing is the song "Ghost Riders in the Sky" was playing. I hovered around the bar and watch as the fine residents of Primm did the same. Switching to 1st person view, I got a close up of my left hand held up in the air, locked approximately 90 degrees to the left of forward. If I knew a quick way to upload pics, I'd post the screens for you.

My guess is a conflict with other mods. I have some custom animations that I'm guessing are the culprit, since they aren't loaded via the mod manager, rather just copied into the player mesh. I'll try and restore the original keyframes and see what happens.

Edit: No luck. I'm running CASM, Mojave Nights, Hi-res eyes, Poco Bueno, type 3 body replacer, and a child armor fix and launching with FOMM and NVSE.

I added this to my game with no animation issues. I haven't found the motorcycle yet, but I haven't exactly been looking for it either. The next time I play I'll see if I can find it. :whistling:

I actually reinstalled New Vegas and loaded only the Motorcycle beta mod, but the animation glitch is still there. Does the mod require that 4 GB enabler? Not sure what else I can do. Also I'm running all of the DLC except Dead Money.
Here's some screens:

That's strange. I use NVSE's 4g loader and haven't had any animation problems. I don't have any of the DLCs though.

Ha, that was the problem! The mod requires the 4gb loader in order to work. So, not so much a bug, but a pre-req for the future readme file or description.

Now, I'm in the same boat as you, as I haven't found the motorcycle yet. All my location guesses have been wrong so far (gee, I though that trailer full of bikes by the Mojave Outpost was a sure bet...).

EDIT: Spoke too soon. Animation glitch is back. No idea what the deal is. I did update my Nvidia drivers, so it might be connected to my graphics card. Now, I'm really bummed since I just had it working.

I haven't thoroughly explored the junkyard outside of Novac yet, but that's where I would have put it. :hubbahubba:

[edit]: Nope, it's not at the junkyard. :cryvaultboy:

The 4gb loader isn't required (NVSE is, but that's all). The animations are idle animations, and as such, the player and NPCs look through all idle animations to see which to use for a given situation. The motorcycle animations have a parent dummy animation that (should) control whether they're used; the conditional is to check if IsWin32 == 0 (which should never be true when playing on computer). For some reason, this conditional is failing for you daerdevil. I'll try some other conditionals in the future and see if I can find one that is more reliable (that IsWin32 isn't reliable baffles me). Maybe IsPS3 == 1...

The location of the motorcycle has been mentioned by one of you, so having not spotted it there, retrace your steps. I tried not to make it outright hidden, but it is in an essentially otherwise unused spot. It's slightly sheltered from the elements but is still outdoors in the wasteland. I had considered having it be the motorcycle Old Lady Gibson keeps in her garage, but hers is explosive and ultimately I ended up adding a new motorcycle object rather than reusing an existing one. After you do find and repair the motorcycle, if you ever totally lose it, you can return to where you first found it for a way to retrieve it. The retrieval mechanism is the only outright 4th wall breaker I included on purpose, but it's like the companion dismissal terminals added to the vanilla game: there to account for when the game effs up.

That said, a major update to another game I enjoy came out on Dec 1st, so I've been a little preoccupied.

Also, guys, I'd prefer it if this thread dies and discussion moved to the beta release thread.
