i pick neither... i like & dislike it, if they dident make the game in the Nevada (WHICH IS ALREADY A [censored] DESERT) it would fill more accurate (yes i do notice if its somewhere besides nevada it cant be called fallout new vegas)

artistic license needed to be implemented in order to make an interesting environment, just using the excuse that its a desert doesn't cut it, there's no good places to hide, you're out in the open wherever you are, and like ace said there's a bunch of one room shacls and tents, so i definately think if some imagination was used there could of at least been more ghost towns and buildings.

Did you happen to notice that Fallout and Fallout 2 have a desert like setting, IE the wasteland? There are forests and so on but much of the land is a "wasteland." The Mojave is a great place to have a game. Its close to the original locations of the first two games. Mojave also has great loactions like Las Vegas and Hoover Dam.

The western United States and the midwest would mostly be desert and it is in the Fallout universe.

I'm not understanding the problem either. OP please elaborate a bit more on what you were expecting from a location that was originally desert and is now probably even more devoid of the necessary requirements to have a more diverse region.

The desert can be fun just look at Red Dead Redemption.

RDR has a beautiful looking desert that felt very realistic but it was boring as hell.
If I wanted a hunting simulator I'd go buy one, hell, I played one at a friends house and it was really fun.
But RDR's world was boring and empty, those that think NV has a boring and empty world haven't seen nothing yet, RDR takes the cake.
And the things one can and will encounter gets repetitive as hell after one has seen it for the 5th time.
Ugh, RDR is by far one of the worst games I've ever played really.

But yes, the desert can definitely be fun, but RDR's was horrid IMO.

Oh yeah mods are awesome, wanna tell me where I can get them for a 360? <_<

There was more to explore in Fallout 3, but but Fallout:New Vegas has that special touch I can't quite put my finger on. But I like the Capital Wasteland and the Mojave Wasteland in their own ways, they both have their pros and cons.

I personally think it's a bit bland but it looks impressive at sunrise looking at the strip from good springs cemetery. It's rather special.

it just didn't work for me, i think the way they made it was bad, first of all there needed to be terrain you navigate, lots of invisible walls and areas you couldnt get to or traverse, not many nooks and crannies to hide or sneak around in, no ghost towns, deserts have lots of ghost towns, there needed to be more building complexes, they could of put in lots of power stations, radar stations, missle silos, those would of been fun to sneak around....look at camp searchlight airport, you couldn't even go in the buildings there...not enough trees or shrubs or even cactus, what about the oasis's? usuaully deserts have oasis's, prob a third of the map is dry lake beds and there's not many dry lake areas in the desert, so they just made it extra empty on purpose, not because its realistic.

The problem is, Neveda doesn't have all those imaginary towns that sprung out of the blue back in the 40's.

Obsidian used real towns, and actually made what Neveda looks like; a desert.

They also shortened the real distances between places, so you can actually stroll from one place to another without it taking days in real time. So in fact they made the desert more densly populated then it would be in reality, if anything.

Capital Wasteland was shortened the distances too, but for engine limits. Gamebryo can emulate the real life Washington and Nevada

Not saying it can't. It would be quite tedious for people who don't fast travel if the distances were real life. It's just that I don't quite get the 'wide empty desert' complaint - for a desert - and one based on a real place, too - it's not very empty at all.

I like New Vegas cause it doesnt have such a miserable gloom that Fallout 3 did and New Vegas is bright and sunny, a perfect day for a courier.

The desert is just to of a boring place. Why would they pick a place where nothing ever happens.

They chose the Mojave as that was where Van Buren was to take place partially, they reused Hoover Dam and Caesar's Legion as they were part of the plot, they made changes of course and only used a small fragment of Van Buren, but they decided to finish something they previously worked on, in a much smaller scale.
