Monday GI Hub Update! Discussion Thread #4

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 8:11 am

Sorry to double post but... I just saved the screenshot picture and it was named "Markarth". What is Markarth?

Must've missed this...
I just noticed the screenshot is called "Markarth01." Does anyone know the significance of Markarth? Have we seen this in lore? Or perhaps someone can identify it on the Skyrim map?

Give http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159657-markarth-side/ a look over. It answers your question I believe.

Huh? That post wasn't directed towards anybody. I was implying a pattern. Last week's updates were on Monday,Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Since the last update was on Monday, the next should be on Wednesday.

Yup!

@Andrew_Reiner There's only a tiny bit more room on the Skyrim hub left, so are you going to extend the page for plenty more updates?

Whenever you guys find Twitter stuff like this, I made a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159110-info-from-twitter/ for it. It gets impossible to keep track of what we learn from Twitter either about updates or actual game info.

Operation flashpoint: dragon rising used the Havok behavior system and It worked fine in that game. Animation is like artwork if someone at Bethesda is good at using the tool the animation will look great. The npc's should react appropriately to being hit now.

"...but Bethesda Studios has also developed and contracted a suite of technological tools that allow the team to reach far beyond anything they've done before."

I think this may imply Bethesda has more than just Havok physics and Havok Behavior as middlewares, but we'll see.

GI's writing isn't something that really holds up to dissection... As seen in the magazine they are rather hyperbolic.

You're also violating the rules of distribution. :)

..but Bethesda Studios has also developed and contracted a suite of technological tools that allow the team to reach far beyond anything they've done before.

What has Bethesda done? Developed and contracted.
Developed and contracted what? A suite.
A suite of what? Technological tools.

Joking aside, I think middleware is almost always a bad thing. It lets you get stuff done faster, but maybe not how you wanted. Save for extremely complicated things of course, like physics. But I've always preferred the DIY, from scratch method. Hell, I'm learning DirectX programming (was already a programmer otherwise, at least) just to toy with writing my own engines. :)

I just got home and I was wondering what kind of impact Havok Behavior will have on modding. Will it just be that Beth will ship with lots of nice animations and we are going to struggle to make our own nearly as awesome, will be be able to use some form of it(doesn't seem likely,), or what? Just curious.

Sorry if this has been discussed in one of the previous threads.

The article said Havok Behavior will govern special effects.

I wonder how that's going to work.

Never mention that game in these sacred halls again! :flame: :verymad:

My guess is that Havok Behavior is capable of blending more than just animations. Particle effects and mesh morphs are what I'm thinking about.

That is really cool about Havok Behavior. Basically, it allows for NPCs and creatures to procedurally step on any uneven terrain, with the given animations for the NPC or creature.

Hm, I wonder if mesh morphing handled by Havok Behavior could control facial emotion.

Check this out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcds8eY93Zk

Especially @ 1:22 it really shows off the difference.

I hope the ogre's / giants have that kind of detail. The motions it did to beat it's chest, when it roared, and how the clothing moved just right. I got high hopes for the monsters/beasts in Skyrim to be a lot more scary and terrifying then in Oblivion or Morrowind, and not just because improved graphics but realistic behavior, no pun intended :P

That's a demo of Havok Cloth, noch Behaviour. As far as we know, Skyrim won't have moving clothings.

If you go around murdering people without being caught the npcs should make comments about, "The crazy "insert skill used for killing" wielding maniac struck again!"

I'm hoping that we can get some new screenshots within the next few days, along with some information on attributes and other areas of debate.

Confirmation of other voice actors would be nice, just one or two. Heard lots of slagging of a game that no one has seen running over the last few days, but don't forget, the involvement of Max von Sydow was one of the first pieces of information we had. Proves someone somewhere is making good decisions.

Nothing on full body awareness, but with the more detailed looks, better animations and full real-time shadows, being a floating head when using FPP would just be wrong, so utterly wrong...
I hope there will be a statement about this.
