Monday GI Hub Update!

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2011 1:31 pm

The GI article confirmed we could put magic, shield's or weapons in any hand. I guess your GI hasn't shown up yet.

Ninja'd :ninja:

Sadly, no. I suppose I could drive a couple hours and spy on the development through the window of BGS, but that would be a bit creepy.

Edit: BGS! Stupid broken g key.

I read that article and my jaw hit the floor. More advance AI and Random side quests based on past events. That's sick in my opinion.

The screen shot was pretty impresive, I like the details in the enviroment. That shot really makes you feel like your in the heart of the mountain. This is going to be a long 10 months.

Interesting that the ruin is possibly Markarth Side... which is supposed to be a city, not a ruin. Some [censored] must have went down in 200 years.

@Rahu X - ah, yes. Thanks. I suppose with the perks, it could work. *shrug*

Mehh... if the devs thought riding dragons is appropriate, then Id like to believe em. If anything, at least we will get a bird's eye view again

Indeed ! Make us forget about levitation. They don't get to design crazy pretty landscape without letting us fly like the cliffracer high into the sky.

Also : Silt-mammoths. I was looking for a Skyrim creature to dote on for means of in-game travel, and I found it.

I'm very pleased with the information related to animations and character behavior. It sounds much more organic.

Still, we're going to have to see how it plays out in the game.

Some open world games go overboard with these side activities and stray too far from the main storyline. Bethesda is aware of this pitfall and is actively engaged in preventing the feeling of being overwhelmed by the Radiant Story missions.

What pitfall? I like to stray far from the storyline

I guess they mean that they want to avoid you getting bothered with random missions ALL THE FRIKKIN TIME.
They probably won't tell you which quest is random and which is scripted because that will ruin the immersion, but random quests are bound to get repetitive at one point.

If there is a good balance between random quests scenario's and scripted quests, the random quests won't feel random at all until after you beat the game.

Random quests in Daggerfall were: go slay a harpy, go slay a werewolf, go slay an other werewolf... I see you're getting quite good at slaying werewolfs, so here's an other one. Congratulations, you got promoted. Go slay a lich and a vampire. I'm too old and too spoiled to fall for that again.

I like how only now that they have a better version coming up they're mentioning the flaws of Oblivion's AI. :P

You call them flaws, yet the system was arguable one of the most advanced at the time.

The way I see it is that they were less flaws and more areas that needed improving. And it seems like they've done just that.

Like in RDR haha or GTA IV "aye WANT TO GO BOWLING!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!" ehhhhhh.....

Yeah im assuming they made it so your not getting bombarded with missions all the time and bring them out when you dont have much going on

Not quite. People misunderstood what it said in the magazine and assumed conversation was in real-time. But now we know for a fact.

What we were unclear on was if the PC would still be frozen in place and yes we will.

Great pic, already knew most of the info though, but it was a good recap and I did learn a couple of new things (stuck in spider webs). So... anyone know when the next update comes out?

This is great!! Perhaps for the first time I'll explore over types of character, rather than my usual generic spellsword.

I also like how some NPC's won't just give you a quest just for talking to them, that you have to get to know them before being offered it, and also that they may offer more than one quest. This should stop me having dozens of active quests :L

Radiant stuff, if it does what it says on the tin, should offer near-unlimited reply value. If they combine this with regular updates, or expansions, I'll be playing this game forever and a day :L

yah, who's the feller who keeps having his tweets answered? Let's get him back up in here!

What we didn't know from the article I am happy to learn, at least in conjunction with the other stuff. having one and two handed weapon skills wouldn't be cool on its own, but with perks it may well work even better than the old ways did.

So if dragons are mountable as some people speculate, then that pretty much confirms that towns are open again.

I hope to see a perk list...that would be awesome. Not all, just like 10-15 perks that we can look at.

Seems pretty awesome, but I won't be truly impressed until I see a main character walk down the stairs like a normal person.

You know what bothers me about this "advance" AI doing things on their own again. That will mean we will have the hand held compass again. Yes I know in the screen shots the HUD was off, but I have a feeling this may change and it will have to be left on so we can see where this "advanced AI" goes if we can't find them.

I do hope they leave the HUD to be off, even better, since I like the HUD on, and the the compass, but to turn the quest locators off. Why we can't have this? Guess just lazy programming. But yeah I am looking forward to the better AI, because I tried to be a "spy" or "thief" to see what the AI does and found it very boring, since all they did was just walk A to B to C. I hope this is not the case for Skyrim.

If you're really good at a particular skill, like one-handed weapons or destruction spells, a stranger who knows of your reputation may ask for training, challenge you to a duel, or beg you for a favor that will require you to show off your skill.

Weapon skills are reduced to one-handed and two-handed? :(

Awesome read, I am confident that Bethesda will pull this off and pull it off well. This all sounds very promising, I think it would be cool to see what would happen if a friendly AI would react to you mooching of them or if a Nord will break out a self defence axe If you break into their house instead of going "get out or I will call the guards!" can't imagine a Skyrim nord doing that. :D
