I assume when Todd says "everything has a shadow" he means that console versions will have shadows as well

Well, it'd be hard to tell based on shadow quality unless you had comparison shots, and since a lot of people are for the moment assuming that the screens are from the 360, no way to tell how it'll measure one next to the other yet.

Well I'm not comparing it to anything. There is a lack of shadow quality in the picture, that's a fact. It's not like saying that it doesn't look as good as something else, it's that shadows can be judged and the shadows are non-existent in that pic. It could just be the angle but it also is that it's from the console. Shadow quality isn't a measure of how good they are, it's how well defined they are and one of those settings is nothing at all.

It looks realistic to me. Look outside on an overcast day(got one here right now) and you will observe an extreme lack of shadows. This gives me hope that their dynamic weather is going to actually be dynamic rather than faking it.

I'm not saying the pic looked bad, I think it looks great and if you look at my posts around the forums I've continually defended the graphics. I'm saying, that there are just some minute details that scream console. Mainly shadows and softer textures.

What evil deity did Bethesda sell their souls to to have such an advanced engine on this generation of consoles? :P

On the negative side, I'm not sure I like the seeming emphasis on Bethesda deciding what's best for me, with the Radiant Story stuff; I can't help but feel that level of reactiveness will be intrusive rather than immersive. Perhaps GI's choice of words isn't doing the system justice...

But otherwise, there's some great new info in there.

The screenshot reveals a lot more detail when seen at a higher resolution, too, not the least of which is the water. Those waterfalls were much less clear in the magazine screenshot, but it's obvious now how much more they look like... well, falling water.

After reading, all I can say is this.

ALL MY WORRIES FOR SKYRIM HAVE NOW VANISHED

and

SKYRIM LOOKS AMAZING

I can only imagine how it'll look on PCs at max settings.

I hope we can get a confirmation on Attributes soon.

Also, it's pretty much implied that the combat skills are just "One-hand" and "Two-hand" now.

What I'm especially worried about is the straying from the main storyline part. I want to stray away from the main storyline. Will I still be able to?

Yes. They're comparing it to GTA IV, where the player could hardly get anything done because nobody in his life could live without him.

Guys, it's filed under PS3. I'd edge toward that being the source of the shot.

"Some open world games go overboard with these side activities and stray too far from the main storyline. Bethesda is aware of this pitfall and is actively engaged in preventing the feeling of being overwhelmed by the Radiant Story missions."

I'm a little worred by that. What does it mean? I've always felt the best part of The Elder Scrolls series are all the side activites. I love pretty much everything else I've read, but I'm not quite sure what they mean by this.

He was talking about RDR in my opinion, RDR goes overboard with random events.

Doesnt look like it. Im sure here will be shadows on the consoles, but definitely not on everything.

(And yes, I know lighting changes according to the weather)

Very reassuring that they mention Daggerfall specifically as an influence. It was always my favourite. Looking forward to Radiant Story, hope they're included in guilds as well!

Oh yes, I remember that. It was impossible to stick to the main storyline in GTA IV, sometimes.

Hmmm, when they said violent waterfalls, does that mean water will have dangerous currents like when I go hiking around my neighborhood???http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYlItHLcSww&feature=related

hahaha very good question... I fear for these men's afterlives. But its not good marketing to stratify your consumer base, by making general statements like "everything has shadows", just to later recant and say "only PC versions have dynamic shadows".... most people will buy this on the console. Not a good idea.

So in saying that, I assume both versions have dynamic shadowing. For some reason it is hard to make out in that screen.

The only thing about this article I didn't like is this:

"With all this technology at its fingertips, surely Bethesda could put players on the back of a woolly mammoth or a fire-breathing dragon, right? When we ask, for the first time during our visit Howard clams up. “We're not talking about mounts yet,” he says coyly."

To me it seems to really suggest there will be Dragon Mounts...
And Dragon Mounts are heresy.

As long as dragon mounts are optional, I don't mind. Give them to people that want them, but if you don't, you don't have to.

I wonder if that screenshot was from a console version? I`m thinking it might well be. Todd did say that the Console versions would make you think you had a new console. If it is..wow.

I`m so gonna take a week off work when I get my mitts on this game :D

And what i'm saying is i wouldn't expect any greater detail in shadows no matter what it was on because what you see is realistic to real world lighting. If there were more shadow definition it would obviously be faked and then it's no longer dynamic.
