Monk Build

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:51 pm

I always play an assassin type character in both Morrowind and Oblivion. The usual Thieves guild, Dark Brotherhood, Morag Tong quests but have been pondering a monk style class for some time. Oblivion (vanilla) doesn't offer me great hand to hand or staves that do melee damage or on contact magical damage, or unarmoured, levetation, etc..... So Morrowind it is! i've been playing since its release on XBox and never done any of the guild or houses besides what i listed. So my build is based on basically being a good character? No stealing, murdering, and actually doing the Imperial Cult, House Telvanni and (the other one)

Male: Nord
Sign: :Lady

Agility
Luck

Major:Hand to Hand
Sneak
Blunt Weapon (Only Staves)
Alteration (Open, Water walk, breath and levatation)
Acrobatics

Minor:Marksman (only thowing stars and darts)
Unarmoured
Illusion (Frenzy, charm, sanctuary)
Restoration (Heal, Heal other, aborb health and Fatigue
Enchant : (Never actually tried, always just paid)

Idea is just to learn a few useful spells to avoid fighting like frenzy and calm and when i do fight a simple staff with an enchant absorb health and fatigue.
Walked into the first smugglers cave by Seda Neen and in sneak mode threw a star and when she ran up proceeded to punch the @%#^ out of her untill she fell over and i actually did damage. killed her with little life left, rested for an hour and had 1/2 life a proceeded to do the same to the other 2, one at a time. I was quite excited afterwards, being i'd never used hand to hand in Morrowind. its gonna be hard not stealing, picking locks etc... but i'm gonna try and wear basic robes and little jewelry as possible, maybe a ring with restore fatigue and health constant effect!

And i'm gonna kill Helseth for sending the Dark Brotherhood after me. A frenzy on the whole room maybe????

It does look good.
But, just for the record, absorb health and fatigue are in the school of Mysticism.

I'd change Illusion to Mysticism and enchant to light armor, monks can still wear bracers and boots at the very least, I would also recommend the imperial for their masive absorbe fatigue power, quite helpful on my monk. Also if you are going to be a good character I would advise against joining House Telvanni, that's just my 2 cents. Otherwise looks really good, one of my favorite characters ever was an Argonian monk, similar to this one but it was an argonian so I used spears instead of staves, and less magic so that I could use athletics and acrobatics for guerilla tactics.

i've heard they also used steel longbladed like weapons so add longblade as a minor skill and buy a steel longsword if in need of lethal force

I'd like to say, a monk wouldn't join Telvanni. Theyre power-hungry opportunists. Find a portable camp mod, and live out in the wilderness. EITHER the Imperial cult or the Temple would be a good choice. Probably Imperial Cult. Especially for a man.

If anything, a monk would join Redoran. Probably only a follower of the three, though.

Of course, it's your play style. If you don't mind the slight lore breaking, it's fine. That's the beauty of Morrowind! :)

Any mod that adds elemental damage to hand-to-hand could be useful. And provide an unique role-playing feature for your char.
