Monster/Animal rarety

One of the things i always disliked in Oblivion was how often you would encounter a wild animal.. i mean.. i don't live in the woods but how often do you think people who live near a forest encounter wild life? I always felt like every encounter would be more interesting if we didn't have a wolf coming after you every min.
I really hope that in Skyrim we wont bump into a hilarious amount of creatures every time we go off the gates of a city wall.. hunting would be much more rewarding and every time you encounter a creature it would be more like "Oh look! A wolf!" instead of.. "Oh man... another wolf...". Thats also one of my fears with dragons is how often do you encounter them.
I would also like some extremely rare creatures where you might even get a trophy out of them for hunting them down.
Whats your opinion?

i found that oblivions world was quite empty and needed more creatures to fill it up

it would be great to have more types of wildlife in skyrim

I also think they need a healthy; large amount of creatures in Skyrim. The game may not be like real life where you don't encounter wildlife as often, but that's that point of it being a game. It'd be dull without lots of monsters/wildlife to fight

I live in Sweden, sort of in the woods, and I encounter wildlife every other day. I know what you're getting at but it's not as uncommon as some people think. :)

I know what you mean but i'm referring more to the part where your travelling in the country side.. if you go into caves or really deep in the woods you should generally find more wildlife quite often. If your on the road and your still jumping into wolfs very frequently it feels really weird.

Alright i understand, I agree if you're sticking to the road it'd be nice to travel without having an encounter with someone/something too frequently

I remember the first time I got to Two Trees in RDR, I was attacked repeadly by bears while standing in the same place - they were constantly coming at me.

I counted 33 bears in one go attacked me while I stood in the same spot, no less than about 6-7 seconds apart each, sometimes two at once. The ground was littered with their corpses.
And be aware, there were more coming, I just got sick of it and left for fear of losing the pelts (etc) I had attained so far.

It's at this point that RDR hunting was really broken for me. That and when you get attacked by three wolf packs in a space of 2 minutes.

RDR made hunting fun however - since it was worthwhile and it had challenges with rewards e.t.c. e.t.c.
Oblvion hunting svcked. Wolves were on there own and one was every 5 yards down the road ready to kamikaze into you.

There needs to be a healthy balance. I agree with the OP, there should be less of things like wolves and stuff. But perhaps there shouldn't be less animals than in OB, but more variation. Instead of "Oh, another wolf", "Oh, another deer".

There were more spawn points on or near roads than further into the wilderness in Oblivion so it was safer to travel cross-country than on the roads. I felt the frequency of encounters was fine, given that hopefully the balance between civilised and wilderness areas will be redone. I would like animal encounters to be a lot more frequent than monster encounters, even at higher levels, in most areas. To compensate every troll or giant should be a tough fight.
