Monster Diversity

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 5:37 am

The first mod I installed after the general bug fixes for Oblivion was Martigen's Monster Mod. I was wondering if there has been news on monsters varying in height, size, muscular build, and color? I do hope Bethesda takes away a few lessons from their mod team, because that mod made the game so much more diverse and fitting.

I sure hope so, FO3 is twice as much fun with the MMM mod (didn't have it for Oblivion though), but I highly doubt it unfortunately.

Well, we've seen black and brown wolves.

hope we also get some diversity in numbers and levels:

example:

your level 10, and you enter a catacomb u will face 5 level 3 skeletons and one level 10 wraith for example.

I don't want to fight one or 2 enemies at a time, I want to feel powerful but with some challenge as well, so give us some hordes of trash monsters to hack along with the powerful ones.

Yeah, I've always been a fan of what I'd call the "goblin horde". Basically, you get to chop, shoot, magic your way through a horde of weaker enemies.

I'm also reminded of a mod made for Morrowind that added a more realistic ecology... with groups of animals (that traveled in groups), along with young versions of the animals.

We are getting more diversity than oblivion

And more animals will attack you at once ... like a pack of wolves.

Just because the skeletons look different in Skyrim doesn't mean they will vary much. I sure hope so though.

It'd be cool if the wolves in the south were brown, black, or gray, and in north in the snow if they were white. I really hope they do that.

what would also be cool would be realistic "packs" of wolves, or any [collective amount] of [insert animal here]. If there was an alpha-male, cubs, wolf-dens, etc. it would add a little to the realism. I don't know enough about animal behavior really to elaborate on the idea, but it could be worth the dev-time if it's as cool as I'm imagining.

in the trailer the player is surrounded by a pack of wolves so there are going to be packs of wolves

One thing which I loathed about Oblivion was there were far too many real world creatures in the game. Morrowind had far superior ones and a more diverse landscape.
OH LOOK ANOTHER BEAR! No Bethesda I don't want to fight creatures and animals which exist on our planet and shouldn't have any business in Tamriel. Where's the diversity?

They kind of had this in Two Worlds II to an extent. I definitely want wildlife to have diverse colors sizes etc.

Yes. We can fight our animals in our world. We dont need a fantasy world to do it.

It would be nice, that's for sure. In addition to different colors and in the case of skeletons and giants, weapons/clothing, I would like to see young wolves, little horses that you can't ride, and http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tGHzOEp3UKA/S7hy39X7XLI/AAAAAAAABJA/IXLIFQH3rE8/s1600/Dima_Societ_Cartoon.jpg

Quick - call PETA!

I don't mind the real world animals, though I wouldn't mind giving them all some fantasy modifications like how the Horker is different from a walrus.
And for Skyrim I would like to see all those Ice Age animals brought to life.

Yes and more fantastical creatures as per Morrowind would be a great welcome. I missed fighting well designed beasts and creatures in Oblivion compared to what was featured in Morrowind. Excluding cliff racers fortunately.

been sugesting that animals fight differently, monsters should be able to fight differently, with puncing, grabing, throwing, flying and distance and so on.

but fighting hordes of weaker opponents is usualy much more fun than one hard opponent
