Monster homeowners & hostile stewards

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 5:01 pm

Does anybody know whether some stewards are okay with you vamping/wolfing out right in front of them? I just found out the hard way that some definitely aren't...

I turned into a werewolf in my dining room in front of Ogol the other day, and he started attacking me. This surprised me, as I've turned into a werewolf and a vampire lord in front of my Markarth housecarl on many occasions, and he still greets me with a friendly "Honored to see you again, my Thane" no matter how freakish I look.

I have found that Ogol doesn't mind what I look like if I have him following me at the time, but it's kind of a pain if I don't realize he's in the room with me...

(This is in Cheats/Hints/Spoilers because of the inevitable question of why I bother turning into a vampire lord or wolf in my home at all. The answer: I'm using the glitch that makes it possible to have both of those powers, and changing between forms affects your appearance and available abilities. I prefer to do that in the privacy of my own home.)

Er, I don't suppose you'd have a link or something telling one how to do that glitch? Sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Hah, okay. Yeah, it is much more fun for me than playing two different characters. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1447673-werewolf-vl-hybrid-glitch-question/

On topic, though, anybody know if some stewards won't attack on sight if you go monster? I wonder if this has anything to do with their position on allowing you to commit crime, but maybe not...

Hey, I got linked! I'm happy my post is actually helping people.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure housecarls are the way to go for that. The act of transforming is viewed as a crime, so certain NPCs will get butthurt over it. To onto the UESP, and look for characters that are cool with any types of crime.

Hm, looks like I've only ever hired stewards who have actual morals. I'll have to try it on a character who hasn't hired anybody yet. I had trouble with hireling stewards not giving me steward dialog options, so that basically just leaves housecarls, College mages, and Eola (who I killed). Maybe that explains why my housecarl doesn't give a fig, though!

I used Rayya as my Steward (bad decision, I should've hired a different one so I could have another follower protecting the house), but most housecarls work just fine in my experience.

Just for the record, the follower's morality is irrelevant with regard to whether they'll attack you when you turn into a vampire lord/werewolf. I tested this with Brelyna Maron (sp?), one of the College mage followers with morality set to "will do any crimes," and she still attacked me (except when specifically told to follow me). Looks like I'll be making my transformations in the basemant.

(And RIP Ogol, killed by a giant. Only hiring "Protected" followers as stewards from now on.)

Either way, I'm fairly certain Housecarls won't attack you.

Sorry. With 1.9 now installed, all weapon racks in my Lakeview Home became someone else's property, and I had to steal my own stuff back, then Lydia drew out her sword, and finally, after I tested the final bad weapon rack and/or plaque (I had built all of them) she attacked me. So I deleted all my saves of my level 45 burly two-handed war machine because I couldn't take it anymore, and started a wood elf archer who will learn the shouts, but not do the MQ. That's how frustrating it became lol.

Unless they're considered property of the housecarl that definitely shouldn't be happening. Housecarls are willing to commit any crime. I steal crap in front of them all the time and they've never done that. I believe you, but that's bizarre.

But then again, I was plagued by backwards flying dragons for a while, so I've seen stranger.
