monster ideas #2

Dragons would be cool...but you guys are right. No other TES game has had dragons as a common enemy. It would definitely seem pointless to bring them in all of a sudden. TES is unique from all other fantasy games...and dragons will take that away.

It would be nice to see some more humanoid creatures and sea creatures as others have said. It'd be cool to see something like the Alit or Guar from Morrowind. I find it likely that you would still see creatures from other provinces. Animals can migrate for great distances over many years, settling in many different areas. Take for example foxes, many different species of foxes exist and can be seen in deserts, woodlands and even in the arctic tundra. Plus, I would find it likely that a nobleman might have creatures captured for his own personal collection or possibly released in the wild to hunt for sport. Sort of like how some noblemen in Morrowind sought after Dwelmer artifacts.

Some different goblins would be nice. They all seem to be about the same size. But yet they're described to vary in size from "shorter than a Bosmer to larger than a Nord".

But most importantly, I'd like to see more activity from monsters. If you watch them from a distance they don't do much. Usually they just walk from one spot, stand there for a bit and than walk to another spot...stand there, and the cycle keeps repeating. It'd be nice to see them maybe trying to hunt for food or gather food from plants (humanoids). Or if there are flying enemies, maybe we can see them flying in formation and off in the distance, and possibly land in some other location. Speaking of such, seeing some birds would be nice too. We saw butterflies in Oblivion but only heard birds.

There are different sizes of goblin. The goblin warlords from Oblivion and the goblin warchiefs from Tribunal are really tall, the rest of the goblins are about the height of an Imperial.

vampire clans back

ALL TYPES OF DAEDRA. This could also help expand the types of dungeons by a hundred fold: Nocturnal's nocturnals (it's their name, don't blame me) would only be in pitch black dungeons, etc.

AlL TYPES OF WERE-CREATURES

Something flying

Dragons WHEN FIT. There are few dragons in the lore, but there still are some. in Oblivon there should have been massive Water dragons in lake Rumare, as well as one or two Imperial Dragons used as mounts by the highest levels of the Imperial Legion and the Blades. More common, but still rare, would be Dragonlings. They would be like NPC's, but if you crossed one would be an extremely difficult fight.

more fish then just slaughter-fish

Medusas, Centaurs, Dragonlings (as mentioned) and every other creature that was in the lore, assuming it belongs in the environment (No Centaurs in Skyrim, I'm afraid.)

Neither one of the dragon ideas that you described would be fit. Massive water dragons wouldn't even fit in Lake Rumare, and dragons as mounts for Imperial Legion soldiers and members of the Blades... come on. Realistically, (yes, I know it's a video game) you would never see a dragonling. Akatosh was in the game, that was enough.

Giants, are they in the lore? Can't be bothered searching for it.

Now, I'm no lore buff, but I do know there are about 5 or so dragons left in Nirn, so we should save them for another time. But I have an idea for an easter egg. Dark Brotherhood henchmen, clad in all the black armor, fighting pirates. Pirates vs Ninjas!

To steal some ideas from other places:
OOO & MMM
give me some variety and some creatures that are difficult even for high level characters to kill. Something like they did with the balrog. I would like to see some original monsters that make Skyrim different from Norway, Azeroth etc. Something unique to tes. And for pete's sake make at least three different skins for each creature so that when fighting a pack of them they're not all the same. I know average joe can't tell one deer from another, but OOO and MMM did a great job of making different types of goblins etc.
Witcher:
In the witcher there were flocks of birds milling around that were completely inconsequential to the game -they were just there for scenery. This made the forest seem a little more real. Not every creature in the game has to be evil or even killable. Of course if they put rabbits or something in the game then you should be able to kill it for lunch.

Someone mentioned nile crocs and a bunch of other things. Hopefully whatever they include in the game suits the scene.
On the cliff racers:
I liked the cliff racers for two reasons - 1 they kept you out of areas until you were ready to go there. They were difficult to kill but they were a great airborne enemy. Once you got stronger, they made for great target pratice. Everyone hated them, but I thought they were a great enemy. And of course they were unique. Trolls, ogres etc are great but they're in every game. You say cliff racer and you know you're talking about MW.

I hope there are vampire clans, werewolves (they have to be in the game in the frozen mountains...) etc. but what I really hope for are unique monsters. The fighters guild could have a trophy hall (like Battlehorn castle) where you could mount unique trophies. There were a few of these in Oblivion - there was a cave with a named lion, there was the giant mudcrab, but make them into actual quests. Have the FG send you off to kill a certain creature that is killing live stock, that sort of thing.

oh and populated skies and seas please.

Yes, there are giants in the lore and in one of the games.

Give me the proof.

From the http://www.imperial-library.info/pge/cyrodiil.shtml
The Imperial City

Refayj's famous declaration, "There is but one city in the Imperial Province,--" may strike the citizens of the Colovian west as mildly insulting, until perhaps they hear the rest of the remark, which continues, "--but one city in Tamriel, but one city in the World; that, my brothers, is the city of the Cyrodiils." From the shore it is hard to tell what is city and what is Palace, for it all rises from the islands of the lake towards the sky in a stretch of gold. Whole neighborhoods rest on the jeweled bridges that connect the islands together. Gondolas and river-ships sail along the watery avenues of its flooded lower dwellings. Moth-priests walk by in a cloud of ancestors; House Guards hold exceptionally long daikatanas crossed at intersections, adorned with ribbons and dragon-flags; and the newly arrived Western legionnaires sweat in the humid air. The river mouth is tainted red from the tinmi soil of the shore, and river dragons rust their hides in its waters. Across the lake the Imperial City continues, merging into the villages of the southern red river and ruins left from the Interregnum.

Unfortunately, that Cyrodiil doesn't exist anymore, replaced by the retcon pawned off on Tiber Septim that turned everything from hella-interesting jungle and Aztecs-meet-Romans to European countryside and just Romans.

Why does Bethesda insist on ruining everything? That description sounded really cool, yet for some reason does not sound like the Imperial City that I saw... Hmmm. I hope that Bethesda actually reads this forum and listens to the fans. Maybe they've learned from their mistake and will stick to the lore next time. Oblivion would've been so much better if it was created according to the lore. But no, they had to stick to generic fantasy, turn the Imperial City into Gondor and steal mithril from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. When I first played Oblivion, I thought it was really unique and cool (I was new to The Elder Scrolls games), but then I learned about the lore and realized that Bethesda was very lazy. Then I got ahold of Morrowind and I realized that Oblivion is garbage. It was fun, but is an utter disappointment for true fans.

Centaurs that you can ride if you make friends with them or something and they use bows so they fire at enemies whilst you ride them. And some books and stuff so that they are part of the lore. ^_^

Carnivorous plants such as giant venus flytraps, killer trees, and vining strawberries that are red for a reason.
Pools of muck that can morph their digestive glands on the outside, to snare unwary travelers.
Giant snails that can shoot paralysing mucus.
Schools of docile chipmunks that band together to take down invaders.

In Skyrim, I think it would be interesting to bring in dwarfs and other creatures relating to Norse mythology.

The dwarves in TES were the Dwemer, which were actually as tall as the other races. They disappeared after the War of the First Council and are arguably now dead and reformed as the golden skin of Numidium.

Spriggans?

I would like to see Giants wandering the mountains. They would be about as big as Mehrunes Dagon in the last part of Oblivion. Or as big as the gatekeeper.

I think that would be interesting to see.

There are giants in DF, and they were about slightly larger than the biggest ogre in OB. Dumb as doornails, but they hurt a lot. They often lived in any dungeon and seemed to prey on rural communities' livestock and people.

That would be neat. Something to realy make you seem like your not the biggest badest thing that came out of an oblivion portal. The monster mods for Oblivion that added Big creatures were realy good. The battles feel very epic when your fighting a beast thats 2 storys tall with just a bunch of guardsmen armed with iron short swords. Tossing fire balls around and stomping on things.
