Monsters that regenerate hp

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 11:05 pm

I know when you put trolls down, they do not actually die. You have to cast any harmful spell at them. The thing is, you may defeat a dozen of them and not get any xp, if not killing by magic.

Is that so with vamps and liches? I guess they have these truckloads of hp (500-750), regenerate... and if you pout them down, they rise again, so you get no xp either?

In other words , if you want these great battles to count for their huge xp, you must have *any* item ready with harmful spells (shock, force bolt, fire...)?

Thanx!

I found my answer in the Crystal Tower: there's a vamp there... I did not remmeber vamp's were so hard (actually, the previous pre-quest Temple of the Mad God presented me with challenging Monks, one of them actually caused my Redguard Assassin to die for the first time in the game!).

I died a 2nd (and 3rd) time killing a vamp. Apparently, they grant you NO xp at all! I Ebony Blade him; then I tried using Force Bolt mark for the last strike... even one of his Fireballs struck him too, and I stayed at the same xp figure.

Well, if I wanna be 'on the dime' with the game, I alreayd have a solution: a killing spree in some city to match xp from foes I get nothing from. After all, I'm an assassin, you know...

Actually, in Arena vampires are worth IIRC ~50K experience. (I don't recall the exact amount, but I do recall it was a flat number, not levelled.) You can kill them. Try using only magic (I like fire).

You'd have to kill an awful lot of folks to match the experience a vampire would give you. Again, IIRC townsfolk are worth 5 XP per whack (I'm not terribly sure of that figure, but I know it's paltry in any case). Kill a few guards and then you're talking some XP, but IMO they aren't really worth it either. On the brighter side, in Arena you don't have a reputation.

Trolls aren't worth the killing. They don't give even 4K experience, their treasure is laughable and they're an undue pain to put down permanently. It's better to quickly reduce them to a quivering mess, then leave the area (upon which they are removed from the game).

Liches don't regenerate, BTW. Don't know what I was smoking. They do regenerate.

Good...if it was true. I have corrected my above post. Liches do indeed regenerate. In my defense, if you use the right method, their regeneration doesn't come into play in any significant way. But wrong is wrong. :(

I checked some other notes. Vampires give a flat 67500 experience points, and liches give a flat 59464 experience points. I know you were burning to know this. :)

Errr... What? Vamps give more xp than Liches?

I know we have to deal with them exculsively thru magic. Yet I used a Crystal of Force Bolt on a Vamp, it paralysed and stayed all decrepit to loot, and offered no xp...

If I am to believe ten-years-ago me, yes. Maybe they have more hit points or a better attack. They're both really tough in their ways.

Maybe you already know this, but whether you "kill" a regenerating monster or not, when you reduce it to a non-attacking state, you can loot it. If you did not in fact kill it but merely incapacitated it, it will eventually come back unless you leave its area.

If you did in fact kill it (i.e., its remains don't jump around), and you didn't get the EP, then there's something wrong with your game. Go kill a few fire daemons to make up for it. ;)

Thanx Dr Memory - I have a lvl 14 High Elf Batlemage who exclusively solve things thru magic, and the xp thru magic-kills is there. :)

Once I get to Vamps and Liches, I can post my findings.

When liches are vanquished, they go *poof* (like, e.g., ghosts), so that's another way they're different from more earth-bound critters. I don't think they ever present an EP issue due to that fact.

Just sayin', not sure why. ;)
