Moon Battle

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 5:02 am

Anyone care to share their thoughts about the battle at The Sea of Tranquility that is shown on this (http://cdnstatic.gamesas.com/bethblog/2015/07/MoF_MURAL1440px.jpg) mural released on the fourth of July? It is also displayed inside the museum where the minute men are hold up in Fallout 4. I know it probably won't be relevant as it is just a battle that happened along time ago, before Anchorage that is, but I did see an outfit in the atom bomb baby combat scene that looked like a space suit or it could just be a new rad suit. Also, I know it would be a straight-up copy of Operation: Anchorage but it would be cool if you could relive the battle in a sim pod and in doing so, learn classified government secrets or something that only that moon-soldier knew (similar to learning the location of the apple of eden in assassin's creed by learning Ezios memories).

also the mural's description
"This mural commemorates the many sacrifices of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces.

From Lexington and Concord to the shores of Iwo Jima, from the Sea of Tranquility to the Anchorage Front Line, Americans have fought and died through the ages to secure our nation’s freedom.

May their sacrifices remind us all that freedom is a privilege afforded to the many, yet hard won by a noble few.

– Mural at the Museum of Freedom, Concord"

I have a feeling it will be like Fallout 3 where there will be some side quest that brings you by or out to pick up artifacts related to the battle.

Any idea what the stars on the last flag symbolize, if it's not the 50+ states anymore?

I'm holding on to hope for a DLC where we get to run around an old pre-war space station that's falling apart, and rooms you can't enter without proper gear because of hull breaches. Environmental hazards alone would make it exciting.

Basically there were 13 Commonwealths so 13 stars and the large central star represents the Federal government.

The wiki goes into the details....

That would make sense except there isn't 13 stars on that flag. The power armor guy is blocking part of the flag, but based on the spacing of those stars there can't be more than 11

Read the section way toward the bottom of the page. There's some disagreement between different developers on which flag is the official one, as several different designs with differing numbers of stars have been used throughout the series. Anyway, on the sea of tranquility battle. The wording definitely implies that it was a battlefield, but it could also be referring to the more political battle of the space race. There isn't much established about the space program yet, other than that the US landed on the moon and has some weaponized satellites, so more info on the subject will be interesting.

Don't you just love it when developers can't keep their lore straight? Why Bethesda would take the flag and knock some stars off makes no sense, unless they are changing how many commonwealths there were.

Pretty much this.....the 13/14 star flag seems to be basically a 'rule of cool' new version of the Stars and Stripes. The Commonwealths are simply an attempt to give a reason in the Lore for the change.

There could have simply been an armed clash between the US and Chinese astronauts over who planted their flag first. I doubt there was a large scale battle, but a clash between the two factions is certainly possible.

I'd say it however is more likely a case of the US winning the space race to the moon.

It looks to be 13 stars to me, 12 in a circle and 1 large one in the middle....its basically a clock face with the central star in the middle.

I'd say the strange spacing on the left side of the stars is just the artist skipping some stars because the power armor guy is blocking some of the flag in the mural. :D

The moon lander has the same 13 star flag.

I blame the Fallout Bibles.
I do find it interesting that the Enclave flag is the same as the old US 13 stars, expect for the E replacing the central star.

http://fallout.gamepedia.com/United_States_of_America

According to this one the Central star represents the Columbia Commonwealth the seat of the federal government.....so in effect we get the same effect as the 14 star flag with the Central star representing the Commonwealth and the federal government.

It also notes that the achievement for the archorage DLC features the 13 star flag and of course the 13 star flag appears several times in New Vegas. So the 13 star flag is pretty well established lore at this point.

I like that idea, but let me add... robot fight. Me in power armor, vs a robot (in space!). I may have watched to much Archer recently.

I am only halfway serious about the robot fight... I'd love to mod that in though, minus the dwarven technology. Seriously to heck with those dwarves.

Something along those lines, the worn out space station that is, was intended for Van Buren. Could be a cool area, but I have a feeling it'd have be a large area tightly tied to the main story to make it worth including.

-Name of the topic is ''Moon Battle''

-The person who made the thread has a Borderlands (Vault) icon as an avatar

Coincidence? Unless we get to see Space Power Armor as one of those Mecha Dahl machines you stumble upon in BL:TPS.

haha this ^^^ America, kicking ass and taking names since 1775. But in all seriousness I am excited to learn about the battle on the sea of tranquility. Is it November 10th yet?

you can try freezing your self but you may not like the results...like being sent to far into the future and not being able to play that dead and old format. to then be sent back a few months before the game was even announced :)
