Moon physics

Post » Mon Sep 27, 2010 3:28 pm

So, with this new engine I hope we are no longer playing with 1/3 gravity and lethargic physics that existed in Oblivion and Fallout 3/NV.

Who else would like to see slightly more realistic world physics in regards to items, jumping, falling. etc.?

fallout had that, it was only in oblivion where acceleration is not taken into affect

From the title, I thought this thread was going to be about the physical/environmental effects of Nirn's two moons. Imagine the tides!

But I hope there are improvements in this regard too, and I'm pretty confident that there will be.

Yeah, hopefully it actually looks and feels like we're making contact with the ground when we move.

they did say there were water physics

What???? you mean that jumping 10 feet in the air and floating 20 forward isn't realistic?

In addition to falling accelleration (didn't they do high school physics?),,,
,,,I would like to see accelleration of the main character based on their weight (weight of equipment), so a heavy character couldn't side-step or dodge as fast as a unarmed character, but still have a similar top speed so they don't get bored on long walks.

'Moon Physics' will be the name of the all-Khajiit prog rock band that plays in a secret cellar somewhere in a tavern in Skyrim. Completely off their faces on Skooma. You heard about this easter egg here first folks.

Realism, eh?

You do know Nirn is different than Earth, right?

Therefore, what is realistic on Earth isn't exactly realistic on Nirn, and vice versa.

Besides, the only way the Elder Scrolls will truly be realistic is if you remove magic.

Hehe, tides caused by the moon would be an a neat effect, but I'd be more concerned with having a tumble off a cliff actually look painful. :)

It's a yes for realism. It's a maybe for development.

Do you think the developers consciously made the decision that Nirn would have weaker gravity than Earth, or do you think they just messed up the physics?

im not sure about it, since the running and acrobatics starting off are horrible, but when fully trained it seems too unrealistic.
half the time, fall damage doesnt seem like it should harm you as much as it should, but that might just be how first person is hard to judge height when jumping.
but in oblivion i would jump everywhere, but as a consequence, take tons of fall damage so hot-keyed healing potions.

also i believe they said wind will affect water current, so you would think the moon would affect the tide more than wind.

Could be both. You never know. :P

Besides, Oblivion was Bethesda's first try with physics, so I can assume we're not going to be seeing slow falling bodies in relation to the gravity on Nirn, whether it be greater than, lesser than, or equal to Earth's.

I just thought I'd chime in on the concern of realism, because when it comes to realism on Nirn, you never know.

You mean the Psijics? They're more telepaths and less theoretical physicists (ah, I'd love to see an Altmer Gordon Freeman :D )

I suppose you could technically say it would be more realistic to take size into account, but most games shoot for earth like physics unless game play is completely based on alternate physics :P

I ran across a headmudcrab the other day. Nasty creatures, I try to avoid them.

It'd be interesting the Bethesda actually put in well thought-out differences between Nirn physics and those we know - so long as they're intentional, of course, and not just covering up for not being able to get things right. Everything shouldn't be the same, considering that the place doesn't run on scientific physics as we understand it anyway. ;)

I thought it was going to be about which stages they were in, and how it would affect the Khajjit.

stop playing games then specialty rpgs were we build stats ,if we get highs stats in speed and acrobatics we should jump very high and run fast.
