Moon Sugar

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 2:52 am

Why exactly is moon sugar missing completely from Oblivion? Is it because of the lore or did the developers just chose not to add it?

Also could someone explain how exactly would a moon sugar plant look? Would it be alright(lore-wise) to add a little moon sugar to Oblivion via mod?

Funny, I was just reading about this yesterday.

Because skooma in oblivion had no meaning and everything we knew about it was that it was an illegal drug that was not illegal in game? Laziness, I say.

In Cyrodiil, there is not such a great problem with Skooma abuse, so few merchants will refuse to trade Skooma or unrefined Moon Sugar.

So, I guess that since merchants in Cyrodiil won't refuse Skooma and Moon Sugar trading means that there is at least a little Moon Sugar in Cyrodiil, right?

However, I still don't know what would a Moon Sugar cane look like? What plant from Oblivion would be the closest similarity to the plant?

An important part of Khajiiti culture is the Moon Sugar that is harvested in Elsewyr. Moon Sugar is said to be created by mana falling from the Ja'Kha-jay into the Bay of Topal on the southeastern coast. The waters are then drawn into the sugar plantations of the jungles of Tenmar, which cover much of the southern area of the province.

That's as close as a description as I've found. I don't think it is a plant at all.

They chose not to bother.

They're sugarcanes.

Well, no, because I'd strongly advise you to use the moon sugar from http://wrye.ufrealms.net/Cobl.html instead; for technical reasons. It is much better to have one type of moon sugar than to mysteriously have ten different stacks of the same ingredient.

Moon sugar requires its own model. Skooma was just a bottle.

And I'm pretty sure there is a lot of mods that adds Moon Sugar all ready. So just download some of those or make one of your own but dont use all of them at the same time :D

Well, my mod has nothing to do with Moon Sugar. It's just that I'd like to add a little of it here and there mostly for technical reasons(one of the characters in my quest mod is a moon sugar addict).

You could add the sugar, but would the plant grow this side of the Elswyr desert?

It's not just about this side of the Elsweyr Desert - though that is fair comment as far as it goes - it is specifically in the Plantations of the Tenmar Forest as there ordinary Sugar Cane combines with the Waters of the Topal Bay and it is there that the 'Tears' (my poetic description that word) of the Jah-Kha'jay that fall from the Twin Moons are caught according to the Clanmother and that makes the Moon Sugar a mystical item.

Folks outside Elsweyr may believe otherwise, but Khajiit see the world differently. :D

And you would also be able to grow it in places with controlled ground and air and such like a Garden House?

If that guy can grow vampire plants, you could grow some cane. You'd probably need lots of room, though.

Right. I find it extremely odd there's an entire quest to kill some drug dealers for a Guard, and yet if you sell or walk around or even use Skooma you're not treated as a criminal.

Hey, this is the game that has an entire guild questline centered around the notion 'Don't do drugs'.

Although there's probably more to it than this, Morrowind did have a long history of enslaving khajiits, so there has probably been moon sugar use in Morrowind for quite a while.

Yeah, Morrowind should have more of both, but the fact is that Bethesda removed all meaning of Skooma and Moon Sugar from Oblivion. There is one quest that was mentioned earlier related to killing a skooma dealer and yet you can take his skooma and freely sell it to any merchant.

In Morrowind people wouldn't even barter with you if you had skooma or moon sugar.

I'd say that's a fairly realistic implementation. :P

Obviously they were lazy, but I would still regard Moonsugar and Skooma to be an illegal substance in Cyrodiil. I just figure that the Imperials were so successful in illuminating it from their province that most of them are now ignorant to it's existence except for a few Guards here and there. Perhaps this is why Caius Cosades is such an addict, at having just discovered the drugs, or at least assuming the outlander-who-just-discovered-drugs act.

All I can say is that if TESV takes place in Elsewyr, it better have both, and lots of it.

Ever consider that maybe the Imperials were responsible for exporting it to Morrowind to undermine the social order there?

I think it was because it had more of a presence in Morrowind because of the slavery and smuggling.
