Moonwell

Alright well I was wondering if any 3d artist would be interested in making a moonwell like the ones in warcraft, I think it would be really awesome to have a moonwell

This is a case where you're probably better off doing it yourself with existing resources. You should be able to cobble one together pretty easily using some rocks and the resources below:

  • http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8712: This mod provides both circular and oval shaped water meshes. Just put your rocks in a circle and then put the static water mesh in between them.
  • http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7235: This mod has a ton of Asian-themed meshes in it, including several that resemble the wooden posts in a moonwell.

Hope that helps! If you want to get really fancy, you can put some particle effects and a light source above the water mesh to give it that magical glowy effect.

For those of us who don't play WoW and pay no attention to things from it, what's a Moonwell look like and what's it supposed to do?

For water effects, I can't sing enough praises of this: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18905

A friend of mine plays WoW. According to him, a moonwell looks like http://www.gitrknowswow.com/images/2007-03-07/moonwell.jpg. It can be used to restore magic and for other things.

I'm currently working on a big mod, so I can't make any promises, but I'll see if I can whip one up. Maybe it'll give me a break from item placement for a while. :P

UPDATE: http://mods.omegacron.com/oblivion/moonwell-wip1.jpg. Unfortunately, since I can't use Blender to save my life, I'm having to take a little artistic license with the design, but it should be close enough. I'll add the rocks around the edge, the other posts and some clutter, then maybe some magic-y sparkle, and voila! a moonwell is born.

@Omegacron That looks pretty awesome, just wondering but if you are able to finish it would it have textures or would I need to find some for it?

Nope - it'll be finished and ready to place in-game when you get it. I'm almost done now, just have to add some clutter and particles. http://mods.omegacron.com/oblivion/moonwell-wip2.jpg. I would've been finished hours ago but I had to go get a haircut, take a nap, etc etc. :P

I should have a copy up for you in 30 min or so. Originally I was going to add vegetation around it, particles, a glowing effect, etc. but all of that can be done easily in the CS, and this way you have more options in customizing it like you want. And, of course, it's less work for me :P . I'm just going to add some clutter around it, then I'll update this post when I have it up.

UPDATE: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31853. I've seen a few other people request this as well, so I just loaded it up as modder's resource. Enjoy!

P.S. - Let me know if you find any hard-coded texture paths or anything.

Actually, hold on - I just tried it in-game and the collision is messed up on that one. I'll get a version 1.1 up tonight or tomorrow. Glad ya like it, though - that's always the best reward for modding!

Version 1.1 is up now at the link above. The only thing left to do on the mesh is make the water in the pool be actual water. Right now I've got the material property set to LAVA so it "acts" like water, but you can't actually swim in it or anything. I'll do another update for that later.

As long as it's not deep enough to get underwater it doesn't really matter if you can "swim" in it, does it? Very cool btw. I probably would have just faked it with Jerall Mtn rocks and left the Akaviri parts off of it :P

Oh, and you don't need a texture block on that. Using just the lava material shader is enough. The mesh will simulate water based on the water type in whatever cell it's in.

Thanks! Means a lot coming from you Arthmoor - you're stuff is always cool lol. I'm still debating if I want it to have a static water surface where I control the texture, or an actual pool of water that you can swim in. It would be about knee-to-waist depth if you could, just enough to make your night-elf babes look good wading around in it. On the other hand, it's currently lacking that magical, glowy moonwell look.
