Morag Tong vs Dark Brotherhood

Post » Mon Mar 10, 2014 5:00 pm

As we await the release of the game, many of us also await the future of the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild, which I believe developers have already hinted at that they are coming our way fast.

Do you guys think it would be fun if the Dark Brotherhood included a PvP element? Namely, one not centered on Cyrodill, but which can happen out in the world?

So that's what hit me. And I realized that it would be rather unsporting and not terribly fun for all participants if the Dark Brotherhood members were simply assigned to take out some random player who didn't know or sign up for it. And who in their right mind WOULD sign up to be targeted for assassination?

I also loved the Morag Tong, however shallow their quest line, in Morrowind. A semi-government sanctioned guild full of assassins. Out in the open, whereas the Dark Brotherhood skulks in the shadows.

It seems an interesting mechanic, then, to have two separate guilds. This would be an Either/Or choice. Players can take NPC contracts for low cash, or participate in a full-fledged guild feud.

If a player signs up for the upper echelon of each guild, they become open to be 'hunted', and can receive contracts to hunt other players. Cash payouts are significantly higher.

- Targets don't know who is hunting them until the hunter actually attacks ... no preemptive strikes.

- Players in the same group with said target can fight the hunter, so the hunter should pick his moment to strike.

- No other players can attack the hunter or the target, or heal the hunter or the target.

- Players in the group with the hunter do not get to attack or heal the hunter when he attacks.

- Hunters and targets can be in the same group when the hunter attacks.

- Once the target is dead, the contract for that target is complete and that target and his group mates cannot keep fighting the hunter.

What do you guys think? Kinda harkens back to Jedi versus Bounty Hunters, but signals out only the 'killers'. And it's important to note that, unless players sign up to take part in the war between these guilds, they can continue to be members of each guild without being hunted.

Dark brother hood will exist of some generic kill x mob quest line. NPCs aren't attackable, player contracts can't exist right because cyridoll is multiple instances. What you want to happen isn't possible do to the framework mechanics of the game.

Adding another faction will just add 5 more skills and another generic quest line.

well, instead of generic, it will probably for named humanoid target. Like one of the kill quest in EP area where you need to kill 3 named creatures.

Your probably right of what the dark brotherhood will be. I can see it being mostly storyline, kill this important figure that didn't exist before, etc, etc.

Player contracts can exist right and easy. Cyrodill is multiple instances, but you can go to other 'campaigns' as a guest, making tracking a player down fairly simple. Most dungeons that I know of are also public instances, meaning finding those targets is ALSO an option.

As far as another faction, I'm all up for Morag Tong anyhow. Dark Brotherhood has always struck me as a tad bit too emo for my tastes, what with all the bullcrap about black and blood and yadda yadda. It's like it's what a teenager would imagine assassins as being. Though as far as story goes, they do have some of the better questlines in the last two games.

I wonder how will the Dark brotherhood skill tree be, Maybe with some sneak passives and single target CC.

a better question Faction PvP?? have Morag Tong and Dark Brotherhood as Joinable factions but you can only join one not the other so players but make both appealing to players so it can create a equal split.

I liked the bounty system they had in SWG-NGE. It was one of the few good things about the NGE anyways.

Basically when you PVP, and you kill someone, theres a chance that a dialogue box will appear giving them the option to put a bounty on the player that killed them. This was completely random. It doesnt matter if you killed 100 people or 1, the chance for the opportunity to place a bounty is always the same.

Once the bounty was placed, the players name and the amount (which is determined by the player who set the bounty, out of their own money) comes up on a terminal to bounty hunters and if you accept the mission, you have tools to give you a waypoint to the target. Keep in mind, the player can increase the current bounty by continuing to kill players, who also have the chance to place a bounty. So a skilled PVPer could rack up a sizable bounty in a short time, or if they managed to elude death by bounty hunter or kill the hunters, the bounty could stay active for a long time as well. When a bounty hunter kills the player, they get the cash.

In Cyrodiil something like this could work, I suppose the bounty could be against whoever did the most damage to the player who died, or maybe a random player who did damage to the dead player.

The Morag Tong is limited to Morrowind and they venerate Mephala, a daedra. It is basically a dunmer thing and wouldn't fit well (imo) with any other alliance than the Pact.

Anyway, personnaly, I don't want to join the Dark Brotherhood and I don't see the point of offering me to join a bunch of assassins instead of another bunch of assassins; I won't join them either.

I'm not against bounty systems but I'm against the part I put in red. Having means of knowing where particular players are would be unfair spying, imo. It could ruin surprise attacks just because one player of the group has a bounty on him.

it's a nice idea, but i have to agree that the Morag Tong is strictly Morrowind based.

Besides, the glory of the dread father and the night mother is beyond limits. The Tong would be powerless against me and my dark siblings.

The Morag Tong has made forays against others even in this time period. They may be BASED in Morrowind, but they have definitely operated outside of it.
