Morag Tong vs. Dark Brotherhood

Post » Sat Oct 09, 2010 1:28 am

So which do you think will come back? I personally have a sneaking suspicion that Morag Tong will return, but it could easily be the Dark Brotherhood again. Even more, it could possibly be both.

What are your thoughts?

I would think having the headquarters of your organization to be a big blow. Don′t hope to see the Morag Tong again unless Bethesda can come with a good reason for them to operate well in the state they should be in ATM.

Edit: Then again they may be fighting for survival in Skyrim and "you" just happen to be there to bring them up to their former glory.

Bethesda has a perfect chance to bring back the Morag tong though I am curious as to how they would operate as an organization in Skyrim. A Dark Brotherhood vs Morag tong war would be AWESOME.

I don't think the Nord will like the whole idea of Legal assasinations. But there is a dunmer style town in this game, so you never know.

I kinda like the sound of that. I could see it being an interesting questline lol.

That would be amazing! And you could chose which faction you wanted to come out on top, each with its unique advantages and perks......I better not get myself worked up though. Still, a great idea.

Indeed. If it was in it might be enough to make me give up my sworn mage role and play as a sneaky type for once :P

I believe it's already been said that the Dark Brotherhood is in the game. No word has been said on the Morag Tong, but I doubt we'll see them again. Having the land in which they operate destroyed probably didn't help their business much. And while I suppose you could say that they tried to start again elsewhere, I doubt the Dark Brotherhood would take too kindly to their mortal enemies trying to compete with them. Besides, the reason why an organization like the Morag Tong was able to operate in Morrowind is because Morrowind is a society where legal, public assassination would be considered acceptable, so long as you have an honorable writ proving you are within the boundaries of the law in killing you're target. But would the Nords accept that? The fact that the Morag Tong was confined to Morrowind in the past points to "no".

In any case, I'm not really much of a fan of the Morag Tong, at least how they were portrayed in Morrowind. I think it's mostly because the whole legal assassination thing made their quests kind of boring. You just walk up to someone, and kill him, if you have the writ, you won't have any problems. The appeal of being an assassin is kind of dimminished when you don't need to rely on stealth and subtety to suceed, and if you change that same aspect of the Morag Tong which made them boring, you basically remove what seperates them from the Dark Brotherhood.

The Dark Brotherhood have already been confirmed :) I would hope they would too, as Skyrim is the region from which they originated. The Tong have yet to be confirmed or denied. It would be pretty cool to see these organizations go head to head though.

the Morag Tong is really a religious group dedicated to melphia (Just like dark brotherhood is to sithis). just because the empire limited their use to Morrowind, and Morrowind has been conquered doesnt mean the end of morag tong IMO. They will continue on in Dunmer refuges and cities.

This. They cant permanantly be ruled out of future games. At the end of the day, they get to create the lore, and can create new stories so it makes sense.

No homeland. Focused set of marketable skills. A civil war in the making. Sounds like the perfect enviroment to re-establish an organisation such as the Morag Tong.
Paticularly if they back an 'honorable' side in the war. Kinda like contract version of the O.S.S.
The Dark brotherhood backing another faction in the civil war. And of course the independent contracts hired out to either.

When will people stop asking this when it's been confirmed the Dark Brotherhood is in the game!?

While the DB may be better off toned down a little, the Morag Tong was boring as hell. Never want to see them again, and as I've explained in detail in other threads just like this, it's HIGHLY, HIGHLY UNLIKELY that they could even ecist anymore.

Highly, highly unlikely according to who??? You, the creator of ES lore and stories? Its unlikely, but not impossible. They were boring before, but could be revamped. A couple people in this thread had great ideas for how they could be brought back.

Can someone provide a link to where the DB was confirmed in Skyrim?

It's highly unlikely because the Dark Brotherhood already beat them in everywhere but Morrowind, and then Vvardenfel (including the base in Vivec) was destroyed and Morrowind was overtaken.

Sorry, I don't have a link. It's on one of the mon-English speaking country magazine threads, the Italian one I think, but I think they just posted a summary of the contents, not a direct quote (don't think you're allowed to from magazines).

This make sense for a Morag Tong setting. If they competed against the Dark Brotherhood during the civil unrest, the player could choose which faction would succeed. The quests for the Tong would have to be revamped, but it could work.

Anyway its more of any opinion. I honestly dont know what will be in Skyrim.

If I had to choose between those two, I'd say Dark Brotherhood. I kind of like them more.

However, having them both would be even better, but personally I'm fine with just DB.

Because people want to discuss and speculate? Just because you don't like the Morag Tong dosen't mean people aren't allowed to talk about them. Chill.

Anyway, I think it's higly unlikely that they'll return.
That dosen't mean I think they'r extinct, since there has passed some time after "The Infernal City" they could probably have started rebuilding. But I do believe that bethesda won't make more than one assassins guild and since the brootherhood is confirmed I don't think we'll see the Morag Tong. At least not as a playable faction.

Dark Brotherhood haven't been confirmed. It was just implied they would be back. In the UK Official Xbox Magazine which ran a 16 page exclusive on it, they asked about the return of the DB, and all Todd would say was, "Yeah, that was a very popular quest line. We like it a lot."

Unless something has been said on Twitter or similar, it hasn't been confirmed.

This kinda worries me, I mean sure the quests were fun but... C'mon, they would hire anyone that just randomly killed someone "innocent",
they lived in a basemant of an abandoned house in the middle of a city with weird markings on their door and almost seemed more into hanging around graveyards
and doing weird make-up than actually assassinating people for money, which is their job. Not to mention Luciens overly "devious" voice... To me they kinda seemed like a parody of themselves.

While some of that may be true, it was definitely one of my favorite quest lines, along with the theives guild. Maybe even my favorite quest line in the game.

Actually, they have. Here, I found a source, turns out it was the Dutch magazine.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/01/26/skyrim-will-feature-dark-brotherhood-five-cities-and-130-dungeons/

And another source to prove that first one didn't totally make it up.

The question I was referring to was the one about the Dark Brotherhood being in the game.
