Morality and Grelod the "Kind"

Post » Thu Apr 11, 2013 6:27 am

There was a thread that reached its end a while ago about this topic, but I didn't entirely get a good idea of this "murder." The best excuse I've found is throwing a cabbage at her in anger and then she subsequently dies from an accident. :/

How do your moral characters accomplish this roadblock?

I also used a cabbage, involved me using Teleknesis.

On another playthrough, I just walked right in with my Orc Barbarian and smacked her with my Warhammer and left fast and calm.

I actually grew up being pushed around, looked down upon, etc... I've actually been pushed to the point of suicidal thoughts and hopelessness... That pain is much much worse than any physical pain you can gain and is something I don't like at all.

When I first saw Grelod and how she is treating those kids, I thought of myself and how I was treated by so many people in my past... I ended up killing Grelod happily with no regrets. Growing up with that kind of pain is something I believe no one should go through and I didn't want to see that happening to any kids... Even though it is just a game!

And I always kill her with a "Shot to the heart!"

Why would a moral character join the DB in the first place?

Hire a mercenary you don't like. After seeing her cruelty, make a joke about how he should probably kill her. After he kills her, fire him in disgust and never speak with him again.

Why would a moral character join the DB in the first place?
You need to kill her to destroy them.

It's the only way to destroy them. You can deny your joining of them to Aventus too. Bethesda allowed moral characters a way around it except for killing a woman that deserves to be jailed.

If you accept this kind of mission, obviously you're the type to overlook a turn of morality now and again.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I don't believe she should be killed ruthlessly. It's like the whole "death penalty" thing, though. It's a very subjective thing. Who's right? It's up to the person and their beliefs. Unfortunately, I'm more forgiving! :D

Maybe the character feels hatred for those who mistreats children and decided to take matters into his or her own hands.

I actually did that the first time. It wasn't as good as the cabbage, though.

You can do this before you accept the mission. Then it truly is just an accident. The character doesn't know what they player knows.

She's an abusive old hag. She's gonna die soon anyway, in the Tamielic perspective, don't care if I accidentally dropped some cheese on her horizontally.

Why would a moral character want to join the DB? I find it hard to believe that a moral character would follow up on Aventus' quest. Once you see Grelod in action, I could imagine some justification, but killing in cold blood and moral don't go well together.

IMO, completionist (non-RP), crazy, or sociopathic/evil character = yes
RPing a decent/good/moral character = difficult or impossible

No. I talked to Aventus and chose the "remain silent" options. As far as my character knows, he's going to Riften to scold the woman, and then he throws a cabbage at her. At least that's the story so far. I like the "disgruntled follower" idea too, but I want to see if there are any better ideas.

I punched her for her mistreatment of the children, it resulted in her dying but since the guards didn't care, neither did I.

That's good. I might do that. Although it's not bad to just say, "remain silent" with Aventus.

I've thought of that, but becoming violent with an old woman like that isn't like my character.

I am sorry to hear that but try not letting past events cloud your judgment. After all it is game so I guess no one can really say anything.

Personally, I think she deserves the death penalty. That what I did.

I accepted the mission but just to see by my own eyes what was happening.
Then I enter the orphanage and checked the Aretino version, and confirming it was the truth, I just kill her.
In other regards, I was attacked by many dark brotherhood assasins at that point, and I used that to get their attention. And it worked.
Then I proceeded to their eradication.

I don't buy it. I'm not criticizing you, but if we're talking role-playing a good character:

In real-life, what would you think of a 250-lb guy who punched an old woman? How about if he was a pro boxer or MMA fighter? (Doesn't really matter if it's a 120-lb person, actually.)

Would an advlt throw a cabbage at an old lady? I'd consider that embarrassing, and it would still be murder.

Mine is justified. Upon seeing how awful she is, it would not be immoral to make a joke about how she deserves to die. If your barbarian bodyguard actually goes through with it, well, that's his problem. Fire him and move on with your life.
