More Annoying: Desdemona or Delphine

Post » Fri Feb 05, 2016 6:44 am

If this was brought before, then I ask the the mod to delete the topic immediately, but after experiencing the Railroad questline to the end, I shake my head and wonder if this NPC is Delphine V2, err wannabe or a new level "hell no".

For me, Delphine was extremely annoying in Skyrim with leading the PC on with they are important and will protect them at no cost, except kill Paarthunaax (sp?), which that and rude introduction after doing a favor for the Graybeards (plus her "awesome sneaky, assassin approach") which a simple sabre cat takes her down, ugh, going off tangent here.

In comparison to Desdemona's "welcome to to the Railroad" approach and the conflict of becoming the Minutemen General, thus suspending certain quests. ALSO, someone with the name Patriot is involved, completing the Railroad side of the MQ... ARGH!

Ultimately, who do you dislike the more between these women? For me, Desdemona. Ultimately it came to Prydwen showing up and suddenly, not only the Institute needs to be destroyed, but BoS as well after getting their rear ends handed at the previous RR HQ location and other safehouses by the Institute, plus Patriot.

Delphine drove me up the wall with frustration, but Desdamona just went another another level PO at an NPC.

What say you?

Desdemona. Delphine is at least consistent - "dragons are bad, we kill dragons, we want you to kill dragons too."

Desdemona is a disgusting hypocrite - "we think synths are people so we save all gen-3 synths and take care of our own... except coursers, we want you to kill those things indiscriminately, oh and those synths who don't want to fight and kill for us, you can kill those too, and that one guy who even made it possible for synths to escape at all, we don't need him anymore so just drop him and kill his friends and family."

I haven't gotten far enough in the RR quests to find anything really upsetting about Desdemona, so I'd have to go with Delphine. Although I kind of hated Esbern more. Delphine gave the impression that she would have gone with whatever Esbern said.

Delphine due to Parthy, and I believe Wrinklehead was meant to be the Barmaid in the preview Trailer for Skyrim.

Desdemona and the Railroad work well together, She fits Her Role.

To be honest, I felt Esbern gone along with Delphine says as she was is the "Grandmaster", plus he shows how he is badass more than her.

As for RR quest-line, just complete it, I think it will disturb more than you realize.

Desdemona, definitely. Delphine is pretty close, but Desdemona is just too vile to let live.

And the funny thing is, they are voiced by the same person. XD Coincidence?

Delphine. I refuse to kill Paarthurnax. Your organization is to help the Dragonborn, not to boss him around. Screw that, I want an option to side with the Greybeard and wipe out the Blades.

Desdemona is a miserable cat. She lies and hides things from you, it's either her way or the freeway. Both are terrible, but at least, I can choose to destroy Desdemona while Delphine has plot armor.

Ha! There is NO contest. Delphine. But for me a lot of that has to do with her drab voice performance because she's voiced by http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000260/ that just didn't manage to bring much life to her.

Joan Allen voices Delphine. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0160004/ did Aela and a few other Skyrim characters.

I find all the Faction Leaders in Fallout 4 to be messed up. Desdemona, Maxson, and Father are all a bunch of murderous sociopaths while Preston is just annoying with his "there is another settlement that needs your help" nonsense.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Though, from my memory of playing Skyrim, they do sound a bit similar. Delphine was the first thing I thought of when I met Desdemona for the first time, to be honest. ^^; But Des' VA, I liked her in Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and recognized her as the voice of the female Norn PC in Guild Wars 2. :)

It made me crazy when I first found Desdemona. I recognized the voice but couldn't figure out who it was (knew it was from Skyrim). I finally had to go look it up. I like her voice acting, I think she's quite good.

Just saw what her latest work is and that might just be one of the signs of the Apocalypse. All Your Base Are Belong To Us is being made into a professional short video. At least it is not a full movie.

Desdemona and her anarchic tomb raiders society. :D

For pointing a gun at me. nobody else does it. nobody does it and gets that far to tell it around.

And for being a terrible leader (Carrington would be a better pick, by far) of a faction on the edge of being terminated, situation thats somehow related at their distorted cause and at their poor policies of (not) recruiting new members and engaging their enemies in a suicidal way, and putting themself in the position of hiding in a catacomb, suffering from the consequences of their choices.

Until you meet them, they've collected nothing but a long list of defeats.

Thus, killing her is a duty of mercy and ultimately a favour towards anyone on the commonwealth.

Behind Delphine/Blades there's lot more to say, at first: they're a cult.

A warrior cult, moreover, they do not think, they have to follow a pre-existent set of rules.

Fallen in disgrace, besides, who sees your dragonborn appearence as an hope to rise again.

Yeah, they use you and thats remarkable but.... in the lore the blades have a large importance and a strong background.

They fought the damn thalmors and their plots, they're still carrying around Baurus legacy, can't feel it against them even if they're short sighted about dragons, imho.

I hated Delphine with a PASSION. She has to be one of the most self-contradicting, unlikable, poorly-written characters I've ever seen.

Des is merely annoying. Del is a 1st degree murder victim-in-waiting.

Freedatoaster is probably less annoying since she can be killed.

Coursers don't have free will and show no interest in wanting to be free(also they would kill anyone against the Institute in a heartbeat). They don't kill all synths who aren't with the RailRoad just those allied with the Institute. You can be for free synths but kill synths trying to kill you. Also they didn't say kill Patriot he committed suicide on his on.

By this logic everyone is a giant hypocrite in Fallout.

Oh no no no no no. I get it, Des can be the biggest [censored], but its at least nice to love to hate her. She plays her part well in the story. But like a lot of Skyrim's characters, they're just unlikable because they're awful characters that are part of an awful storyline. And Delphine is one of the worst ones.

Delphine only exist because the Greybreads are too uptight to tell you where Sky Haven Temple is and asking the College of Winterhold(all those [censored] books and old mages and I'm suppose to believe they know nothing?) isn't a option. Oh and treat the Dragonborn like an idiot.

Coursers have exactly as much free will as any other gen-3, as they are simply Gen-3's rigorously trained for combat. Ayo explains that if you ask him. In fact they may have more developed free will, since the exact quote from Ayo is "Those (gen-3's) who show tenacity, fearlessness and independence undergo a rigorous training regimen".

Just listen to X6-88's affinity conversations, high or low, and tell me he doesn't have free will. Plus, them not wanting freedom is kinda the point. There's a lot of gen-3's other than coursers who don't want it, yet Des is determined to force it on them, or kill them if they actively oppose the destruction of their home. So much for caring about synth's free will.

Sure, they don't want you to kill Patriot. Just betray him and ruin his life. That's Railroad gratitude for you.

They are an anti-Institute resistance group that also happens to believe that synths are subjugated beings deserving of being treated like people. So they are willing to kill synths based upon the beliefs of the synths, not because they -are- a synth which is what would make them different from pretty much everyone else.

It's no different then the BoS and Minutemen saying they're pro-humanity and then wiping out raiders (who are clearly human).

Coursers do have free will though, just like all of the rest of the Gen3's and strongly hinted the Gen2's.

Desdemona clearly felt bad about the Patriot. It was math to them though because if you did the Switchboard quests or read any of the logs you would see that the Institute had been systematically wiping out the Railroad so not taking down the Institute when the opportunity presented itself just for the sake of one person would have cost them everyone in the Railroad in the long run.

They believe synths are subjugated because they believe synths have free will and are not allowed to exert it. Yet, they deny the synths that choose to remain with the Institute, i.e. express free will, the right to do so, and instead either forcefully "liberate" them, or kill them in the process. If they aren't just being thoughtless about it and, as you say - are willing to kill some synths simply because they disagree with their preference for the Institute, than that makes the Railroad even more repulsive in my eyes.

What they should do is work closely with Patriot and the new Director SS to slowly rework the gen-3 program in order to allow the synths who desire it greater autonomy. As it is, Desdemona's math skills are really terrible, because the way they're going about the whole issue now costs them everyone in the Railroad as I annihilate them in all my playthroughs, and I'm a synth sympathizer.
