More bad guys but die easier?

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 1:44 pm

Did anyone else seem to notice that there seemed to be more bad guys on screen in the combat and Microsoft E3 videos but they dropped really quick compared to the old games? Do we recon this is due to easy mode or the move to improve the FPS aspects of the game?

I noticed that too. I hope it's like that so the game feels a bit more realistic.

Probably set on easy to keep the demos moving quickly. Considering the bullter/sword sponge nature of Bethesda games, the video would bog down if enemies had to be shot more than a couple of times.

I'd prefer it if enemies died easier in instances of headshots or something atleast.

It's always weird to me to pump an unarmored full of more anything more than 3 bullets and for them to still be standing/walking it off normally. Same applies to my character.

Hope there is some kind of hardcoe mode where both enemies and the PC die much quicker so things like superior position and ambushes have more purpose.

I think ambushes will be harder to pull off without the transition through door ways being there any more, thinking of FO3 where I couldn't leave the metro station without bumping into Talon Company

Yeah maybe more variation would be nice as well. But there are still times, like on FO:NV when you have just left (nipton I think) and you travel through the canyon and there are raiders (jakals?) on each side who shoot down at you.

I noticed that too. I would prefer the new, fast-paced combat to what we've seen in 3 and New Vegas. The weapons seem like they're actually having an impact this time around. I also noticed that the NPCs might have sticky cover now. During the Microsoft footage, you can see the raiders crouching sideways and ducking their head down when they're behind low walls instead of facing right at you with their head upright.

I'd be very disappointed if that were the case. There has to be a point to disabling their limbs as opposed to going for a headshot.

In fallout 3 (at least in the FWE mod),there were highwaymen. Raiders wearing heavy armor while armed with melee weapons(They could kill you in one slice, were pretty fast, and difficult to kill. Those enemies had to be slowed down with shots to the legs (Best done with a high caliber weapon),then you'd be able to finish them off with a bunch of headshots from any weapon of your choice (You wouldn't want to waste your good rifle rounds,so you used your 10mm since the enemy's been weakened). In FWE ammo was scarce,so you had to make the best of what you had.

Of all the features I'd like to see in Fallout 4,playing more like a traditional FPS is not one of them.

I'm guessing maybe you'll get to decide to go for the clean kill or sadisticly take your enemy apart like in Fallout 3.

Bullet sponges are a pain.

I wouldn't mind having a mix of normal and an occasional hard to put down.

im all for more enemies not sure about making them easier but that's what difficulty settings are for and with mods on consoles if even on highest difficulty theyre not tough enough theres probably gonna be a mod for that.

Possibly you could force them to surrender instead?

One thing I hope they moderate a bit is the dismemberment factor. I mean, it's cool every now and again, but in Fallout-3 my sniper is ALWAYS taking people's heads off cleanly at the neck with headshots. Or the head explodes sometimes. And I have a very low luck, no Bloody Mess perk, no Finesse perk, no real critical boosts at all and it still happens nearly all the time.

I DO like the ability to cripple limbs or shoot weapons out of foes' hands. I was shooting outside VATs, once, and saw the foe's rifle PING away from his hands and then he turned tail and ran. Hilarious accidental stuff. There's a mod I have with a perk called Western Movie Hero which (allegedly) dramatically increases your chance to shoot a foe's weapon out of his hands in VATS. Haven't tried it, but it would be amusing, I think, to barge into a room with six foes and with a high enough AGI/PER just ping ping ping ping ping ping and then you're standing there with a smoking gun and six unarmed foes. :)

Yes just had a look and it does look like some of the raiders are crouching behind cover, This is very promising, more intelligent NPC behavior in combat is always good.

As for higher weapon damage, hopefully that's the case but they could also have increased it for the demo to make the fights go faster.

Most devs usually lower the difficulty and boost up character stats for demo purposes. The last thing they need is people complaining about how bad the person playing the demo is.

If you noticed in the gameplay vids, there is now an 'execute critical' meter I assume you will have to fill up for all those animation kills. Which most likely means V.A.T.S. will play a more tactical roll and be less overpowered as it was in Fallout 3.

Off subject, I do enjoy the goofy ragdoll, gore effects from dismemberment kills and I hope that remains.

Forget where I read it but somewhere I think I saw that criticals are no longer random, but instead you fill up that Critical Meter and when it's full YOU can choose when to 'execute' the critical. And apparently Luck makes the critical meter fill up faster, etc.

That pleases me.

That is true. Luck also gives you the chance to find better items if it's really high.

I'm only okay with this when the AI is smart enough to make combat challenging (e.g., take cover, pin you down, flank you, swarming, fast and unpredictable melee, blocking); otherwise, you're just killing pinatas.

Too many enemies who die quick will give too much loot from their bodies. You have to earn the loot.
