More Books and Lore please

Hardly any books were added from MW to OB, So I think Bethesda needs to step it up and add a whole heap more original Lore and Book content, has there, been any official figures yet?

They added a new element to reading in Skyrim. I don't see why they would do this if there isn't as many books as before(at least).

I really hope so, especially considering the amount of time that has passed (don't know the ingame time lapse between MW and OB though).

I know that books are confirmed, I just hope that there are new books, of course, most of the old books will be there, especially ABC's for Barbarians

There were 6 years between Morrowind and Oblivion, if that's what you mean.

I hope so too, I collected and read all the books in Morrowind and Oblivion. Some were dang hard to find as well. The two Palla books are my favorite, what are yours?

I was saying there will be at least as many books. If books were not in that would be completely ridiculous. But yeah, I agree there should be more books to read for times I want to immerse myself.

Lol I don't know - I meant in terms of lore. So apparently there's supposed to be a 200 year gap between OB and SK.

[Edit] I think anyway - that may have just been speculation.

Hardly? Oblivion added 140, Morrowind 230, and Daggerfall 90. Oblivion added plenty and I'm sure Skyrim will, as well. Where do people get this "hardly" fallacies from?

Yes. That was confirmed in the GameInfromer magazine. Here's a list:

Arena to Daggerfall = 18 years
Daggerfall to Morrowind = 10 years
Morrowind to Oblivion = 6 years
Oblivion to Skyrim = 200 years

But that's a little off-topic.

EDIT: lore-wise

at the very least the ones that were cheap and common should be rarer and more valuable... it has been 200 years.

Not necessarily. Some books stay "in fashion" for hundreds of years.

perhaps. but the empire is crumbling and there is a civil war in skyrim so fashion probably is taking a back seat to necessity. I have been imagining that we'll hear plenty of scholarly charecters complaining about not being able to get to X or not being able to ship in supplies or reaserch books because the struggle is constraining travel and trade between the borders. but thats from a realism persective and I wouldn't want the devs spending over a 1000 combined work hours just to make the value and rarity of books more realistic to the current situation in skyrim.

... also, maybe we could see monks and priories (or just one) who are dedicated to making copies of old books so that they don't fade from history. (they don't have a printing press you know)

There were over 100 new books added in Oblivion. Which is a lot, however compared with MW which added over 200 it might not seem enough.
So yeah, i got a feeling there will be a ton of new lore in Skyrim, with todd keep going on about how the world feels ancient etc. Got to be books which explain!

I hope there are some "alternate histories" (can't think of a better way to describe them), a bit like the Barenziah auto/biographies. It would be cool if you had the two parties concerned in the civil war writing their pieces/propaganda about what happened and why they should succeed.

If a more rude song you wish to hear
Make a thread about wanting a spear.

your brains into mush

Considering Skyrim is 200 years from Oblivion you would hope there were more books. That said, the number of books in oblivion was a major criticism on the forums and I would expect that to be addressed. I end up reading about the commentary about the books on the lore section of these forums rather than the actual books themselves.

I think it is unfair to claim Oblivion lacked books. It may have reused a lot of the Morrowind ones, but they were so awesome they needed to be included, and weren't going to have disappeared in six years. Certainly, the books added in Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles added extra variety to it, but stuff like Father of the Niben and Mannimarco King of Worms were great in without the expansions.

I feel that The song of Pelinal and the 16 Accords of Madness were every bit the equal of the Sermons of Vivec.

I like brains books, the TeS games have always been more fun to just wander around looking to see some creative writing.
Even if that was just to be found in the books alone.

I do hope with the Imperials breaking down, and a more mature rating in Skyrim certain books are no longer censored.

Hey, if the Tribunal can control nine-worshiping Cyrodiil while they're alive, maybe they can even control Skyrim when they're gone? :P

How can they possibly address it? Oblivion introduced many books to the series... second only in amount to Morrowind out of the four core games. They created many for Oblivion, and yet they still get criticized for supposedly not doing so? How can one address a complaint founded on a completely false principle and grave misconception which ignores that that which is being demanded is already there? Should they cut out all books from previous games so that people don't see them everywhere and assume their presense means no new ones were made for Skyrim? Everything about Oblivion seems majorly criticized on these foru,ms. That doesn't mean the criticisms all hold any position within fact... or reason.

I definitely want to see lots of new books bridging the 200 year gap since Oblivion. No textbook recaps of history, but interesting stories like "Night Falls on Sentinel" written to describe interesting little events since then.

We don't agree on voice/text dialouge. But I am pro lots of books, letters, etc This is a great way to add back the "lost" content with voice games. I made dozens of reviews of the books back in the day with my 'starting first game in 5 mins' thread.
